First it would be giving the green light for more illegals crossing illegally...
It would further depress wages not just for low wage jobs, but those jobs that pay alot more...in other words displace even more american workers...
it would change the political landscape as those given amnesty would sooner or later be able to vote if they became citizens...
Our infrastructure would be further weakened as our country's ability to support services needed wont be funded enough by incoming taxes...which once again will mean that the middle class american will most likely have to pay even more...
I have more...but I dont want to write a book here...just gave you the short version...

First of all, i dont think the US gvmt. would grant amnesty to all 20 milllion, im sure teh gvmt would be smart enough to put restrictions so that only say 10 million would be eligible. Second of all it may cause some animosity between US citizens old & new, but as long as they take some type of action where 20 million arent getting amnesty then the US citizens shouldnt have a big problem with it. Sure they will be mad, but we will all learn to live w the consequences of a nonsecure border in the past decades. So the issue will die down eventually. sooner or later.

It would bankrupt this country both in our pockets books and in our way of life. We gave amnesty in 1986 and 3.1 were granted amnesty. Because it they were allowed to apply over a two year time period, one million of those were not even in the country when the bill was passed. No one checked anyones documents so fraud was rapid. Now we have 12-20 million demanding amnesty. I feel that number is low, I would figure that it is really between 30-50 million and more are coming each day. It has also brought press 2 for Spanish, another way that we are becoming a two tier country

Illegals coming in are low-skilled, low-paid workers that take out more than they put in. With the large families and living in low income, low rent areas, these Illegals are taking more out of the system in terms of education taxes vs. education costs. If an illegal family in South Carolina is renting an apartment at $750 per month, they pay pass-thru real estate taxes of approximately $1,000 per year. School spending is approximately $10,000 per student here with a large percentage paid via property taxes. Also, our progressive income tax rates collect little from low income families.
It only makes sense that adding a large population of low educated, low-skilled, and low-paid workers into our society will have a negative net effect on our economy. Otherwise, why has our government been trying to assist our own under class with trillions of dollars in social programs over the past 50 years?
The question you should ask is with so many educated, skilled people wanting to immigrate to America, why are we giving preference to uneducated and poor if we want to solve our welfare problem?

FINANCIAL DISASTER!
Not only would the anchor babies get welfare but so with the parents. They would pay nothing in taxes since their wages are low. In fact, they would probably get free money from the taxpayer called an "Earned Income Tax Credit" or EIC.
Just like after the 1986 amnesty, more will flood in for the next round of GIVING them citizenship.
In addition, since they would be able to get any type of job they want, do you think they will settle for the low wages they are now getting? Not a chance! They will be after American jobs even more. Then the Washington weasels will tell us that we need another "guest worker" program.
This has to end! America should not be taking care of the whole world. Where is personal responsibility?

Only two options.
1) Civil War.
If the law is proved to no longer apply, and our rights as Americans are disregarded to cater to criminals, then there will be a Civil War because the Government will be in effect saying there are no laws. If you dislike a law, break it and we will change for you, there will be no reason for Americans to not fight if they see their country being given away to foriegn invaders.
2) Nothing happens, Americans sit back and say oh well, nothing I can do about it. And in less than 10 years, Latinos are the Majority, the laws are passed in their favor. Aztlan is voted into exsitence, and this becomes a third world country with a failing infrastucture because the people in charge already proved they are unable to create or manage a country.
Sorry to the other Hispanic people, but you know that the Mexicans do not care for you already, you will be the tools to put them into power and then you will be treated the same as us or only marginaly better.

We'd quickly realize there are more than 12 to 20. More like 30 to 50 million.
I'd be surprised if some visible resistance didn't rise up backed by liberals, conservatives, everyone!
The only biz as usual would be in DC.

Well for one thing, the illegals can pay taxes (That's the only benefit I could think of)...
however,
It won't change the fact that illegals are taking American jobs. American citizens & legal immigrants still have to compete w/ them for jobs.
It would actually encourage illegal immigration even more.
If they were given amensty, they can bring their families to America (this will make America even more populated)

The talk and tension out and about in America is extremely high. Some times scary to me in fact. Especially when being on here and the tension seems even more fueled. I would expect some sort of uprising.
I don't understand why Mexico's President Calderon, and Former President Fox were in LA demanding that America take their illegals on humanitarian, or refugee status. Interfering in America's Policies. Who do they think they are?
Why should America keep taking Mexico's cast aways. I have yet to see or hear that Mexico has ever granted amnesty to all the illegals that they contend with. The only thing I have heard, and read in Mexico news is that they immediately round up the illegals, and deport them immediately. Yet we are to continue to take what they chase out or want out of their country.
Mexico needs to get their act together and embrace their own people. The poor especially. Mexico is rich. Mexico can support these people better than we can. Mexico's governing people really need to reach out to help their own people in humanitarian efforts.
But how do we get Mexico to do this, when we have a government ourselves that are not only corrupt, but has yet to address Mexico's leaders to do something for their own people to better Mexico for the good of the country.
We need to keep the pressure on our Reps to do what the majority of We The People want. And stop catering to illegals.
I would even be willing to guess that Americans would be happy to donate to causes to relocate the illegals back to where they came. And to use some of the funds to help them readjust living back in their country of origin. Now I won't guarantee anything regarding those last comments. But one can only hope.
We need to do something to relieve the tensions and pressure off the backs of the American tax paying people. And it wouldn't hurt if our State to Federal Politicians, and our Government State and Federal Agencies, and Officials would do their jobs and Take a solid stand on which interests they hold, and will work for. And it had better be the Americans side when it all comes out in the wash. Or all hell will break loose I'm afraid.

There are about 250 million people in the US. What you are saying is that we give amnesty to about 10% of the population. Considering birth rates among Hispanics and non-Hispanics, that percentage would amost double in 2 generations.
More importantly, we gave similar amnesties in the 1960s and the 1980s. If we continue to give 20 million Hispanics amnesty every 20 years, we may as well change the name of the US to North Mexico.
Immigration should be controlled, to allow immigrants to assimilate into American culture without overwhelming it. Such large numbers of illegal immigrants, with strong ties to their home countries, will not assimilate. They will merely transplant their own culture to the US. If I wanted to live in Mexico, I'd move there. If the immigrants want to live in Mexico, they should stay there.
Multiculturalism is crap.
