I saw fewer problems with the Canon Rebels than the minolta si models . The Rebel is somewhat user friendlier than the minolta too.

If you are asking the question with an intent to buy, understand that there is no Minolta anymore. They were bought by Sony last year. The latest Minolta Dimage camera was modified to allow memory stick and released as the Sony Alpha.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who thought the Minolta was a better camera than the Canon anyway. Canon is widely respected as a great hobby and professional camera manufacturer. Their lenses and imaging tools are top notch. You will also find a much larger array of lenses and accessories for the Canon. So assuming there is not a giant price differential, go Canon to protect your investment for the future.

As much as I love my Minolta cameras (all film, none autofocus) and mourn their passing as a camera company, I'll have to vote for the Canon. Of course you could buy a Sony Alpha and have a Minolta in disguise.
