It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just like someone pricking you with a needle (go figure!) It also depends on where you get it. If you get it in an area that doesn't have alot of fat or right on a bone, it hurts worse.Definitely worth the uncomfort, though. Get one and you'll be wanting another one soon.

i have never given blood because 1. i don't weigh enough. 2. i HATE needles and 3. the sight of blood makes me sick.
my dislike of needles also keeps me from getting shots as much as possible but i do get them occasionally and they really feel nothing like tattoos.
i don't have a problem with tattoo needles because they don't look like needles.
tattoo pain feels (to me) like a cat scratch, very superficial and stingy (kindof like alcohol on a cut) but it lasts for the duration of the tattoo. so if you are getting a large tattoo it is a constant sting for hours which tends to start hurting more and more. different parts of the body differs in pain as well. i have had some very painful tattoos and some not as painful tattoos.

the spine and tops of the feet are the most painful and the least painful is the shoulderblades.

If you think giving blood of getting a shot hurts, you do not want to sit for a tattoo. To me it feels like plucking my eyebrows out with tweezers. Pain also depends on what part of your body you put in on. With mine about 20 minutes in, it became kinda numb and the pain was just annoying.

No where near as much as it hurts to get it removed!

Seriously, you do feel like like a bunch of very tiny shots quickly under the skin. Some parts of your body are more sensitive than others. The good thing is that the moment the tattoo needle stops, so does the hurting. I guess your pain tolerance has a lot to do with it as well.

I never thought that I had a high level of pain tolerence....
But I have my ENTIRE left side done!
It hurts.... but not too much!
The outline is the worst and the fill-in is more of a burning sensation!
I think the worst of the pain, and most annoying, is the healing process when it feels like it is very badly sunburnt!
Don't worry about the pain....If you REALLY want the tat....Go for it!

Good luck!

In my opinon, a tattoo hurts a LOT less than giving blood, or getting a shot.

Getting a shot over and over for 45 minutes in the same area. Depending on size. After a while it goes numb.

Have you ever gotten stung by a sweat bee? That's how getting a tat feels. It's like a constant stinging feeling and it hurts like hell. I had mine done on my lower back so it hurt alot, but I've been told that it all depends on where you get it. My cousin got star tats on the inside of his wrists and he said it didn't hurt, but it made his arm jerk, cause of the nerves.
