Who receives my deceased fathers inheritance? His widow or his children?

My father passed away recently and now his mother is very ill as well. The will with my father was a sticky situation with my mother, who none of us get along with very well. In my grandmothers will, she has left everything to her two sons equally. My mother says that my fathers half will go to her and not to his descendants. Ive been told that it goes straight to his surviving descendants but can not be sure. This is not a selfish situation on my behalf, i am just trying to protect my disabled sister from being stung again. Thanks for any help.

I don't know if it is different in other states but where I live, the father's inheritance will go to his offspring not to the mother, the only way the mother could get anything would be if she is still raising young children.
