As long as the walls are already painted with latex (rather than oil-based) paint, then, yes, you can use acrylic over them.

There are different kinds of acrylic, though. Craft acrylics are those you can buy at Wal*Mart (or anywhere) and have a thinner consistency. If you use those (and you certainly can) your design may fade somewhat over time, because they don't have the lightfastness properties of artist's acrylics.

Artists's acrylics are those you buy at art-supply stores or in the fine-art section of craft stores (Michael's, for example). They're more expensive, but whatever you paint will keep its color for a long, long time. They have a thicker texture, too, which might look great for your design, but will need to be sanded smooth if you should ever want or need to repaint.

If you're renting the place, I'd use the craft acrylics, because they'll be easier for you (or the landlord!) to eventually paint over ... Good Luck with your painting project, and have fun!

No you do not want to use acrylics on your walls. If you wish to create an art piece on your wall, you would use regular interior paints. If you use an acrylic you will actually have a gum like texture on your wall which would be difficult to remove or change. Acrylics are for canvases. Use a regular flat or gloss wall paint to create the scene you want.

If the walls are painted with a flat base paint yes that will work - I have painted many a mural with acrylic paints.
