I'm gonna head to Canada for the summer next year before i travel around. since i was a kid i always wanted to go there, i've done my research now i want to compare it to a canadians opinion. where would be the best place for an irish person to go in Canada.... besides the eastern gaelic areas (the reason i'm travelling is to experience different cultures)

You know, honestly anywhere in Canada is great. If you've done your research, you know that Canada is very big and very diverse. If you want to experience different cultures, BC is pretty diverse, especially the lower mainland. I live on Vancouver Island, which has fantastic scenery, but if you are looking for nightlife, stick to Vancouver. And as far as being Irish goes, we Canadians are a liberal bunch, come on over! ......:)

The eastern provinces are awesome, they have a lot more in common with Scotland. Anyways, St. John's Nfld is amazing! The people are great and there's a street called George Street...check it out...I had a blast there. Montreal and Quebec City are also great. Montreal is very alive, if you like the party/club scene, visit Montreal. Quebec City is beautiful and has some of the oldest buildings in Canada. British Columbia is also fun if you're into surfing, mountains, or smoking pot...they have some of the best weed in the world. Calgary is fun in July if you go to the Calgary Stampede.

You can't go wrong almost anywhere you go from the hurly burly of the big cities Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal to the quiet casual pace of PEI (sorry islanders its true). You will find the "eastern gaelic" areas are VERY different from what you experienced at home and are worth the trip. The Irish are everywhere in Canada.

Enjoy your visit

Montreal. A very French city with a great Irish history.
Grosse Isle, near Quebec City. It was an immigration depot where Irish immigrants were quarantined as they arrived in Canada.

I too would have said Montreal... but my second choice would be anywhere in British Columbia.
