You can buy actual copies of your return from the IRS for $39.00 each. The bank will probably accept a transcript of the return with is FREE from the IRS. Instructions for ordering both are found on the IRS website at the page linked below.

The best thing to do is go to IRS website: www.irs.gov and download Form 4506-T, This gives Transcript of Account and this is what Financial Aids, Loan offices etc require. This is a document from IRS proving you filed a Tax return.

You can also call 1-800-829-0922 or 1-800-829-8374 and ask them to send you a transcript. The can mail you the transcript within 10 days.
Using Form 4506-T you can request information to be sent directly to the lender.

Ask your tax preparer to send them to you via mail, fax or pick them up. They may charge you if they've already given you a copy. If not, you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and request a transcript. They will be able to fax it to you usually in a few days.

Call the IRS and get a transcript of your returns sent to you, they can either mail it or of you are at a fax machine at the time you call, they could fax it to you. Otherwise you can fill out a form 4506-T and have them sent directly to the mortgage company. www.irs.gov or 1-800-829-1040

You can get copies or transcripts from the IRS. Transcripts should suffice for the mortgage lender. See http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html
