Bob, I am sorry, but what you wrote here has no organization or logic and some of the information is just plain wrong. If you are answering a medical question, please stick to the facts and provide supporting links. Otherwise, state that the information is from the personal experience of only one of two people.

Side effects from medications are categorized as Frequent, Infrequent and Rare.

The Wikipedia provides excellent information about Celexa. It is user contributed information, but it is objective and most mistakes are quickly removed. I always search the Wikipedia first because the information is usually better organized, more complete and more frequently updated than other sources. As with any internet search, information that is important or medical in nature should be confirmed from at least 3 sources.

Citalopram - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This link is to Lundbeck, the European manufacturer and distributor of citalopram. Section "4.8 Undesirable effects" is easily understood and very complete.

Cipramil Tablets , SPC from the eMC

This link is to Forest Laboratories, Inc., the American manufacturer and distributer. You can download the FDA information that is in .pdf format. This information is more complete than the European listing, but it is very hard to understand.

Celexa (citalopram HBr), prescribed as a treatment for depression to more than 30 million patients worldwide

This list is very complete and understandable.

If anything truly concerns you, please call your doctor immediately. I you are having a serious problem and you do not see it listed here, please call your doctor. You must always inform your doctor about any concerns that you have.

This question is extremely general. I am wondering if there is something specific that you wanted to ask. If so, please email me and I will do my best to answer.

Also, Lexapro has fewer side effects and is more effective than Celexa, but it does cost more because it is not available in a generic. 10mg of Lexapro is equal to 30mg of Celexa.

One last very important comment.

If you are a female, affected by pre/post/menopause and suffering from depression, anxiety or other mood disturbance, please read the following books before beginning treatment with an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication.

i've been taking celexa for about 7 yrs. it was a godsend for me. i've only dealt with a couple side effects. one is the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep if i take it before bed. the other is diarrhea when i take it in the morning. i solved both issues by taking it late morning, around 10:00-11:00 am. other than that, piece of cake.

skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

seizure (convulsions);

tremors, shivering, muscle stiffness or twitching;

problems with balance or coordination; or

agitation, confusion, sweating, fast heartbeat.

Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as:

feeling nervous, restless, or unable to sit still;

drowsiness, dizziness, trouble concentrating;

sleep problems (insomnia);

nausea, gas, upset stomach, loss of appetite;

weight changes;

urinating more than usual;

decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm; or

dry or watery mouth, yawning, or ringing in your ears.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
