what are good reasons not to give a 6 yr old ADHD drugs?

Because the mental health system is grossly corrupt, starting at the medical university level.

The university professor's call their work a 'contribution' but its mis-information to promote sales of psych drugs and psych services.

The vast majority of people with mental health diagnosis would not have that label years ago, the expansion of diagnostic criteria has even expanded to label the terrible two's behavior as severe mental illness.

Such a perverted practice is biblical level sorcery, and is deserving of eternal damnation in hell.

Corporate control of boards of trustee and university foundations fuel this perversion of medicine and truth. They offend children and the mill stone waiting for them is heavy.

This 'research' published in the medical literature justifies the perverted medication of normal children by the regular practioners, who can point to the research papers and say they are justified in what they do.

ADHD is on the autism spectrum. There is a biological/chemical component. Lots of these kids have allergies and sensitivities to the environment and especially foods. Have him tested by a clinic that specializes in these areas. There is a large group of parents that have turned to the internet and large research groups with seminars that have gotten control of these symptoms without drugs. Adderol is an amphetamine a close chemical group not far off from methamphetamine(Crack). Look it up for yourself.
Defeat Autism Now organization has lots of information on ADHD. Do not be frightened by the spectrum of autism and ADHD they just have very similar characteristics on a broad scale. Good luck from a parent who has made out to the other end without drugs. Its not easy!!

If they don't have ADHD, if they are doing well in school, getting along with friends, acting like a normal 6 year old don't give medication.

BUT, if the poor kid is doing poorly in all of those areas and will wind up unsuccessful in school, family, social life, do whatever you need to do to help the kid, including but not exclusively medication.

Because you're his mother and your gut tells you it's not the right thing to do. As the first person said, there are a LOT of things you can try before you resort to drugs, and you might not ever need to. If you're asking for reasons NOT to medicate, then you sound like you don't want to do it.

There's always time to do it later if/when you decide it's right. If you're not sure, then why not wait?

The question is why would you? The only reason that comes to mind is if s/he is not capable of concentrating long enough to gain enough info to keep up with or close to peers. Soooo, everything else would be messing with development too much for an insignficant gain to the child. Kids are active. Teachers' need's are secondary.

Well, -because he's/she's 6 years old -to begin with. And do you REALLY want a kid THAT young already popping pills- for everything from hyperactivity, to short attention span, to nervous twitches, to- god only knows WHAT else??! There's NO CURE for being a lively 6 years old... -And if we start Medicating children for everything that we THINK might be "wrong with them" because we adults can't "handle" them- those kids are all going to grow up to be Prescription Drug Addicts!!!

... because there are many other things you can try first. Behaivor Modification being one of them. Counselling, support systems in school. There are LOTS of options.
