is there a free site that lets you check essays for plagiarism and gives you the percent of plagiarism and from the source (website) of it?

If I suspect plagiarism in papers I receive, I will submit the paper electronically to Turnitin.com where our college has an account.
Otherwise, the cheapest way is to type in part of the paper on google and do a google search. I usually get the source, print it out, and highlight the passage for the student. Then I file a plagiarism complaint with the Dean of Students. Our college, like most colleges and universities, takes plagiarism very seriously. Hope that helps!
