Is there, or is there not, a ban on RVing in Walmart parking lots and other non-campground areas in Nova Scotia? We are wondering where tired RVers go during peak season when campgrounds are full RVers are too tired to continue driving at night, since, apparently, according to the RV forums, there are not enough campgrounds to accommodate the overflow of RVers, during peak season, in Nova Scotia. Is this true?

I guess those who park there anyway, are exhausted from driving and feel regardless of the rules (and how ignorant they are) they don't intend to risk the life of their family, themselves or others on the road. It should be used for emergencies only.

People can't always plan their holidays ahead of time...it sometimes depends on a lot of different things. We've been planning our trip since May and haven't been able to go until now.

Well, I learned something about Nova Scotia. It would appear by the wording of their law that you couldn't legally let family members visiting in an RV sleep in their unit parked in your driveway! Talk about an inhospitable law!
Thank you Mr Cornwall, for the education.

Yes, its true. In Nova Scotia RVers, with some small exceptions, are allowed to stay overnight only in public and licensed private campgrounds - even if local campgrounds are full or closed for the season, or there is an emergency. The ban on legally parking overnight at Wal-Marts, etc. is Province-wide. Even so, there is confusion about the ban, because a few RVers park overnight at certain Wal-Marts anyway. Happy Trails, but maybe not in Nova Scotia.

Whether or not there is a specific ban in Nova Scotia, I don't know but have not heard of one ... I will do some more research and add it here if I find something like that.

Most walmart stores welcome RV'ers so long as they park in back of parking lot and don't litter. However, there are a number of Cities that have passed City Resolution banning such parking, if this is the case, there will be signs posted in the parking lot.

We are fulltime RV'ers in both Canada and the U.S. and we have parked at many walmarts, or the parking lot of any store if the lot is large, and there are no signs posted ... we have never been asked to leave yet, though if we were, we would and go elsewhere.

Another thing we do is look for where the truckers are parking, and park to the side, away from and out of the way of the truckers. Husky and Flying J truck stops have parking lots you can stay, and we have found other places too where trucks are stopped oiff the road.

And if you really need an RV Park, esp. in peak seasons, make your reservations weeks ahead of time. You can always cancel if you must ... tho it isn't recommended.

if there is no where to park in a campground you next best option is a truck stop such as Irving. Although I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have much problem getting a camping stop in the many parks. If you are uncertain you can call ahead and book a spot.
