Most parents panic when a child gets something in their eye and this is the worst thing a parent can do.

You flushed the pepper out, and she is no longer crying. You are better off just calling the Emergency Room and tell them your situation. More in likely they will tell you to flush her eyes and keep an eye on them. If it looks to be getting worse then they might tell you to bring her in.

But first and foremost you don't panic as that makes something small into a major event that can not only get out of hand but get expensive.

Doesn't your pediatrician have an off-hours call-in number for questions like that, that you can call, for example, if you don't know if a cut requires stitches or a high fever requires immediate medical attention? Can't you call that number and ask if it's something that needs emergency room attention? Wouldn't that answer be more satisfactory than a random stranger's who may or may not have any clue what they're talking about?? Who cares if the doctor thinks it's a dumb question? To me, it sounds like it's probably not a big deal, but if my child was still rubbing their eyes, I'd check with my doctor rather than risk bad consequences. Two minute call; maybe I look stupid; but I'm not taking chances with my kid's sight.

I would definatly call the doctor's exchange number or at least the ER and tell them what's going on. Good luck and I hope she's okay!

I agree with answerer number 1, she probably needs to be checked out, just in case. I am sure that she will be okay, but better safe than sorry.

Call the emergency room or take her there. You can't risk infection, major irritation, or serious damage to the eyes.
