I have had them for about a year and am very happy. I can call long distance all I want, and it's still $30 a month. Plus, you get all the extras...call waiting, call forwarding, call id, etc. The only downfall is if the power is out, it will not work. But really, how often does the power go out! Plus, I get email notices when I have vm, and I can check messages from my computer or another phone.

Just remember that you need DSL or cable hookup for your computer for it to work. Verizon charges more for "stand alone" (without an active phone line) service, and satellite providers (DISH network) charges an additional $5 per month for service without a phone line.

Good luck...hope this helps!

I would not use VOIP service in MY own opinion, but I have not investigated them since the earliest days when I found them lacking, they probably have improved but there are caveats.

Other I know report it took a while regardless of the company to work out the kinks, leaving you to be a sleuth (private eye) and needing some patience to be patient! Some were still taking flak from the FCC about lack of E911 or difficulties, so don't quit your day phone yet!

Vonage is in the middle of legal actions and punitive actions and appeals after they were found in violation of a competitor's patents and ordered to modify or cease some services in favor of the plaintiff. These problems may be rectified at this time and no liabilities may exist, however some damage to the company's business and bottom line HAVE been done. You will want to investigate these notions as strongly as the service quality as you may or may not end up with a useless product unless you do (once again, MY OPINION and not any actual state of Vonage's health BUT these issues have sprung up a lot lately throughout the telecommunications industry, especially Qualcomm VS. Broadcom).

This is a Wild West business. Make sure the Marshal can back you up if the saloon gets rowdy.

As for AT&T, or ANY phone company you must determine not only if it's cheaper but also will the service be what I need regardless of the price. Get the service, the best price and THAT will be the best value.

My daughter uses Vonage and loves it. She has unlimited callin long distance and all the features I have with ATT. The only difference is, she pays 25.00 a month and I pay 70.00. I also have had to call for repair 3 times in less than a year and the customer service is just not what it used to be. If I had the internet at home I would use Vonage in a heartbeat!!!!!

Depends on a few factors.
1. Do you make international calls. With Vonage, some countries are free. I call Portugal a lot, and that was not one of the free countries.

2. Do you have a monitored alarm system in your home. According to Vonage you will need to keep a basic land line for the phone system.

I just research Vonage and recalculated my phone bills for the past 4 months, and it actually came out more exensive then AT&T because of my international calls. That was before I even added in a phone line for my alarm system. But I do know some people for whom my issues don't apply, and they save money... Don't forget that when your power goes out you will loose you phone unless you have a UPS.

If I'm not mistaken (and I may be) right now Vonage is in the middle of some pretty heavy legal troubles. I urge you to do some searching for "Vonage lawsuit" to read for yourself the details on this issue.

No, make sure you ask them if they handle 911 calls.
Originally Vonage did not handle 911 calls (they could not trace the call back to your location if for some reason you dialed and then hung up).

Also, what happens when your providers Internet service goes down. No phone.

you get 30 days to try it out!!!

you can order everything online!!! but remember the clock is running from the day of order....so it will take about 3-7 days to ship...!

its easy if you only have one computer and not a home net- work...... just plug in and play!

If you have a router, then you have to program it!!

you will know immediately if you hate it or love it...then you have time to return it!!! ( get a return-label from Vonage)

I use VoIP for the past 4 years and love it....I had Bell-South before....

yes, you will have E911....its the law that every VoiP has it....I sing up for my E911 address also online...! then I called 3 times the 911....just to make sure it works....but you gotta tell them that you test your VoIP phone....!

Vonage has very good instructions online, just follow them exactly!!

Try Ooma. It is better and cheaper. $3 to $4 a month for 911 service only.
