Hiya

Its an interesting quote, however it seems to imply that people that don't believe in God are simple minded., that they will grab hold to any crazy idea.

And while for sure we see every day crazy fad diets that don't work , get rich schemes without solid basis , and the list goes on , showing that some segments of the population will try anything., even if it defies all logic and proven fact.

But I don't think that applies to 'all' people that reject God.
I think that many have thought long and hard on the mater ,and in their mind according to their own understanding the decision is correct.

In reality though there are two separate types of people.
People that follow the 'True GOD' and ALL those that do not.

For the class of people that 'do not' often they will put more faith into science as the hope for mankind's sicknesses , they may put faith in governments to be the cure for mans wars, they may put faith in financial matters to solve the world poverty problems.

All of these institutions can help man out of some of its dilemmas but they cannot solve all of mans problems.
This is because of two main facts.
Mans imperfect state bing a sinner and the presence of Satan and his demons.

Only God can solve these problems.

A person rejecting God cannot see the full picture , they may even reject the idea that man is a sinner , the evolution theory covers that quite nicely , and they must obviously think that Satan does not exist.

Obviously then , people that reject the idea that God exists do so based on their own limited understanding.

This can primarily be blamed on the failure of the religions of the world in teaching the complete and real truth about Jehovah God and his purposes.

The Bible is clear about what the future holds for man and the earth.
It is trustworthy and absolutely true.

Soon will come a time that God will begin the great war of Armageddon.
For those that have rejected God , either directly or indirectly by following false religious teachings (trinity, hellfire, immortality of the soul etc) this will be a terrible time of anguish and judgment that will culminate in them loosing their lives.

On the other hand for the ones that prove today that they are on Gods side , and worship him in truth according to what the Bible really says, they will be preserved alive.

Depends really if you take what he said as an insult or as a truth.

As either he would be incorrect, anything would include that god and wouldn't therefore work.

As a truth, yes he would be correct because they wouldn't believe in that god so other explanations on how the world came about would be more suited.

As an insult, that would be true also. An atheist can believe whatever they wanted to.

That is a theist myth so they can avoid recognizing that Atheists make ethical decisions and behave morally based on sound reasons and belief that have nothing to do with religious doctrine or dogma.

Atheists do not believe ‘anything’; they rely on reason, logic, objective thought, and an empirical/scientific real-world-based epistemology. Atheists are freethinkers who are not bound to believe or reject everything advocated by religious philosophies.

Atheists are under-represented (compared to Christians) in jails and prisons, and they are over-represented (compared to Christians) in science and higher education. Atheists have lower rates of teen pregnancy, STDs, and divorce than Christians. Clearly, therefore, the behavior of Atheists is proof that they believe in – and live by – moral standards (even more so than theists).

Since all Gods are imaginary, it is theists who believe in “nothing” and who blindly follow doctrines without thought.

Wrong. Usually, if someone stops believing in God, they must already had doubts in their mind. I believe in evolution, due to DNA tracing and all the similarities between apes and man.

But I'm not sure if God exists. There could possibly be a higher being, but there may not.

One needs to put this quote in historical context. In essence, Chesterton was acknowledging the success of atheistic political philosophies that had long sought to displace Christianity (Marxism, Fascism, Nationalism, etc.) The gradual death of Christianity in the West has coincided with the rise of various incarnations of these political movements. Chesterton may have been a rather repugnant individual, but he was not wrong in his assessment of the shifting intellectual climate in Western society.

Instead of the word "anything" I would say we believe what we choose to believe in. Unlike some theist who can't fathom the thought of people thinking differently than them, I quite frankly could care less what everyone else believes.

No. I don't believe in anything. To assume certitude about anything takes away the need to think about it, and the more certitude one has about everything, the less they need to think, and would eventually be considered clinically dead under current medical standards, where absence of brain activity equals absence of life.

Disagree.

I'm a believer in the nonexistence of God.

I suppose you could safely say that we believe in one less ridiculous idea than the theists do... but on the whole it's a worthless generalisation.

I don't believe in the tooth fairy.

In fact, I don't believe in anything, period, nor do I use faith as a mode of thought.

Either I have evidence for a thing or I don't hold a thing as true.

So, no. (s)he was quite wrong.
