If you paid the bill when it was due, you need to contact the creditor and ask them to update their info with the credit bureau. If they do not do that then I would recommend you conact the Better Business Bureau or contact your state's department of consumer affairs.

If you paid it late or after the debt was charged off, then there is nothing that you can do except wait the 7 years for it to come off your report.

You need to send a dispute letter to the credit bureau with proof of payment. This would be considered a dispute letter and you should send a copy of the letter to the bureau and the creditor. You should then check your credit again in about 30 days to see if it was updated.

If it was paid late , the late info still remains .
Only if it lists as unpaid , when you paid , can be changed to satisfied .
If they are listing it as unpaid , send certified mail , the copies of the canceled check or whatever .

If it is just the neg / late , that will be on for 7 years .
