how many murderers are actually caught?

I found statistics from 202, 2003, and 2004. The FBI takes a long time to publish these statistics, our department has not received 2005 yet.

2002- 64%
2003- 62.4%
2004- 62.6%

These statistics are for the entire United States. They will vary between jurisdictions.

Also, if you need metro areas or race offender/victim information, I can probably look it up.

Case closed and unsolved are the usual dispositive portions of homicide and murder cases because most of the killers had planned the execution of the crimes in order not to be detected.

In my metro area around 80% of the murder cases are solved.
