Since when have you ever seen anyone on the street strike one of the gay poses you see looking into the window of a Martial Arts class? Either you kick *** or you don't. If you do you can learn to refine your fighting style through restraining moves and practicing kicks etc but if your some nerdy white office worker afraid of being mugged and now feel all confident you can whip *** if needed let's see it. The only you could hope to accomplish is catching an attacker of guard for second and then your butt better run. For the most part Martial Arts are ballet for girlie men!

Ya your right it helps but you have to be able to take a punch and deliver one to begin with. The teachers who say you can be a 90 pound wuss and still beat up a guy twice your size PLEASE AT EASE!!! I've challenged so many so-called intermediate/advanced fighters and all they managed was a quick kick or whatnot that caught me off guard for 5 seconds before they got their asses kicked.

Ya it does level things a bit if your fighting a 200 pound slob with no fighting skills I suppose. I just think there is alot of frauds out there selling courage to cowardly lions!

all I can say is when you are educated come back and ask it again. Until you walk in our shoes you cannot clearly or fairly indicate why people take MA. They join for many reasons, bullying in school is a VERY MINOR reason people join. Check your facts before spewing mis information. I have no problem explaining to someone the benefits of MA but usually to someone who has an appeciation to learn.

I can tell you don't really want to learn but just bash peoples answers that you do not agree with, It is that obvious and I only answered to call you on it. I expect a thumb down from you because that is what you want to do.

REAL MA do not strike poses in a real life situation, only 8 months ago I had a man begging me not to break his arm over a restaurant table because he grabbbed my shoulder from behind hard and squeezed at a restaurant and i did not know him or his intent, he was lucky I gave him the option of it being broken or not. he luckily for his sake opted to back off hence he kept his arm in tact.

There was no stances other than sitting down or poses it was all natural instinct. so again once you have educated yourself on the subject and have some proof and evidence of this wild claims of absurdity keep studying until you do! then maybe you will understand.
for the most part UNEDUCATED MEN are the type to call others wussies because they are too insecure and have to draw attention away from their deficiency and point at what they perceive or often make up for another to draw attention away from their uneducated beings.

so I know that went over your head but the other MA in here understood me and that is all that matters.

I have not been in high school for more than 2x the years it takes to complete it all and i will tell you NO ONE CARES about what happens to HS and such...you are all still kids in our eyes and have much maturing still to do and you just proved it!

I was also a former member of the USA NATIONAL MARTIAL ARTS TEAM. Ever watch Best of the Best??? I fought like they did full contact and it was hardly for wusses but i suppose if you play football and drink beer and get over weight and abuse your wife and family that makes you a man right? I can see your future already.

only bullies are wusses because they are insecure period as you appear to be or why say what you did unless you are feeling insecure when you wrote it. wow your so easy to explain but then again not much info to put together the life of some one under 18 they just have not lived long enough to make any impact yet and be noticed, if thats what your doing trying to be noticed all you did was look more a fool for it, not a man.

Real men do not bash one another other than in the ring or to protect their lives or loved ones lives. THat is hardly a wussy thing to want to be able to do. Cant wait to see how your football training is gonna save you then!!

Hey mate, I understand how you feel but if you're asking how to beat the sickness out of him then chances are you probably don't know how to defend yourself. Why do people pick on others? I'm no psychologist but I'd wager they choose a target they think they can beat. Be a bit stupid if he's looking for an ego boost and chose a person to pick on who could wipe the floor with him. Bullies are generally like hyenas. They won't confront something stronger if they can avoid it, will pick out the weak members and hunt in packs. But, nevertheless, the bastards are still dangerous. My advice, try and avoid the tool for now and take up a self defense style. Boxing is a good place to start to get a grounding in basic strikes and from there sample other styles until you find one which suits your needs. You'll find as you get better at the style, you'll come across more confident and the end result (in a perfect world) is you will never have to apply it. If all else fails and this bloke does attack you, then give it your best shot. It's better to go down fighting than to stand there and cop a hiding. He'll know that at least if he plans on doing it again that it will involve the possibility of being hurt. Unfortunately there are really no quick fixes to this one. Try and walk tall and not let this tool get at you.

I agree to an extent, I am a boxer which some people consider a martial art but I don't but that is beside the point. I have seen alot of pretenders who think they are Bruce Lee and have got their *** whiped by guys from my gym. I think the ultimate self defence is boxing but that is my own bias oponion. People do martial arts for a number of reasons; spiritual, fitness, not just so they can take somone out. Martial arts are used by the police and military all round the world so there must be somthing to it. You obviously know nothing about martial arts or you would not be making such a stupid statement so you better get back into bed and turn the lights off, I think I can hear your moma coming up the stairs.

ps. I would like to see how you fear against an experienced Jujitsu practitioner.

your definition of martial arts is way off. All fighting styles are a martial art. Thats the definition. I reccommend you watch some MMA(mixed martial arts) and then say u could kick anyone who does martial arts' *** because technically if u have had any unarmed combat training, you are practicing a martial art. I do agree that stances are stupid for the nerdy white guys who weight 90 pounds and obviously don't have any real strength/agility but skill is important and i guarentee you that someone with some jiujitsu and boxing could totally kick your *** even if they weighed 3/4 of your weight. I've seen it before.

I will say that karate alone will not train you for a real fight. I've seen countless karate blackbelts lose to someone with no training whatsoever. The thing is that karate has been way too commercialized. It will slightly improve your striking but there are many other martial arts that are better for street fighting.

you probably suck at fighting and any one with training at all who was your size could kick your ***, as you would say.

I have always considered Martial Arts as a way to "level the playing field'.
At 5'6" and 134 lbs. I am a smaller/lighter guy.
Bullies and jerks tend to be larger guys that pick smaller guys to beat up.
I can't say that I have always come out on top when up against 6' 270lb opponents but I have held my own,and had a couple back off when they could see I knew how to defend myself.
My view is that Martial Arts are great for smaller/lighter people who need some skills to help level the playing field when they become the target of a mugger, rapist or weirdo

To be honest, I was never bullied in school. I wasn't the popular type, either, but definitely not a target of bullies. The "poses" you see aren't for use on the street, so that's why you don't see them. And, if all it takes is to catch an attaker off guard so you can get away, that's what martial arts training is for!

I can see you know very little about martial arts other than what you have watched on television or seen in the movies. You must also believe that "Smokey and the Bandit" and the "Adams Family" are real also and you should make someone a great girlfriend or wife someday-NOT!
Whats your real problem-did your martial arts boyfriend break up with you for one of his classmates or something?

Martial Arts is for those who want to take it....... I say things before I think about saying anything and I use to get my *** kicked so I took martial arts, now I have more stronger punches

depending on how you train martial arts can greatly help your fighting skills: many military forces teaches martial arts or aspects of several martial arts in their training such as krav maga

pro fighters learn martial arts to compete im pretty sure a pro boxer, thai boxer, mma fighter etc... wouldnt be considered a "girlie man"

but its true that SOME martial arts are mainly fitness and lack realistic training. as long as you recieve practical training against a resisting opponent simulating a real fight as closely as possible you are going to be able to defend yourself pretty well on the streets against the average joe

You have a point. Unfortunately, some unfortunate souls end up with a school who's out to make money. They talk a good game, instill you with confidence, never get you real sparring time or tournament competition, then they get their ***** kicked because they can't take a punch. Obviously, you've been fighting those guys.
