In my protein powder, there is 70 g or mg of cholesterol and it is listed as 23% of my daily need for cholesterol. I take 7 servings of this a day, so I and basically getting 161% of the cholesterol that I need. Is this safe, or should cut I back a lot? And does the fact that I weight lift and am trying to gain mass kind of outweigh the side effects of cholesterol? Or is the risk of bad things still really high ?

You don't need ANY dietary cholesterol--your body makes all the cholesterol you need. I would absolutely cut back. If you must have a protein powder, find a soy protein powder, which is likely to be cholesterol-free.

Yes, it is risky if you do it over a very long period of time. But we're talking here months, not weeks.

I don't see why your protein powder would even include cholestrol. It's probably one of those "bulking formulas". They're a huge waste of money, IMO. You should buy whey powders which contain no more than 3g of fat and 3g of carbs per serving.

If you want to "bulk up", simply eat a lot of rice or oatmeal, which are much cheaper and healthier than those "bulking formulas". The protein powder ideally should contain nothing but protein. The carbs and fat included are only for the taste.

On second thought, you can just visit your doctor every six months and keep an eye on your cholestrol level. As long as it's in the acceptable range, there's no need to change your protein powder.

Cholesterol is kind of complicated. You've heard of 'good' cholesterol, right? Usually it comes from whole grains or vegetable sources. It can help bring your cholesterol levels down.

I don't know if this cholesterol in the powder is good or bad.

Go to your doctor and have them test your cholesterol. Ask them about the powder.
