this poem pretty much says when
PUT ME TO REST
Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.
I'm happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.
Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.
Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you'll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.
Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now's the time to say GOODBYE

Why can't he function in the house? Is his only problem being blind? Because if it is and he is still living a happy active life with the injections, you can buy a collar that has a sort of bar which extends in front of the head which works like a cane works for people. The bar bumps into the wall rather than the dog's head and the dog learns to walk around obstacles. There are dogs that live out most or all of their lives being blind.
If your dog is really sick, has a poor quality of life, or if his kidneys are failing, then you should discuss with you vet the option of letting him go.

10 is 70 in dog years. Is he in pain? Does he cry a lot? Then the answer is yes. If he seems to be okay, I'd have to think about it. I would probably, if I decided to put him to sleep, take him to the vet and have him do it, but I would stay with the dog till he was gone. They put down my grandpa's dog when I was 3, and took me to the vet with them, but I thought even at that young age that it was mean to put him in that room and close the door so nobody could see him getting injected, or gassed, or whatever they did to him. At least if you are there with him, he will know you love him.

i don't know anything about australian terriors so i dunno if thats young or old, but it sounds like it would be better for the dog if you just went ahead and put him to a forever sleep. i know it will be rough but its whats best. i have learned that through the years, w/ not only dogs but horses, and horses are a lot tougher to make that decision w/ especially when they're only a yr old. and if you did put him outta his misery, then it would take a lot of stress off of you and your family on worry about taking care of it and the wondering of its wellness. im sorry about your dog :*(.

how about this? why dont you put yourself in your dogs position, with all those things wrong with you, would you honestly want to live like that? and yeah, 10 is old for a dog and its good you care so much about him but your poor dogs probably miserable right now so maybe putting him down is better. oh, and hell go straight to doggy heaven and loose all the problems he has right now

I guess the question is do you think he is still fairly happy. He might not mind bumping into walls. If you think he is unhappy then it is probably time to say good bye
My question- why have you stopped the insulin injections?

If bumping into walls is the only thing painful for him, hang in there with him! It's tough to see him bump into things I'm sure, but he's still happy to be here or he wouldn't be so active!

10 years is still pretty young. on average dogs of that size live to around 15 or 16 years old. If your dog acts like hes in pain, i think that you should let him go, but if he still loves life, then you should let him live.

Only you can decide. Do not let anyone make you feel guilty about your decision. If you feel like he has lost the quality of life, then help him.
These are things we do FOR them. Not TO them.
Do what you feel is best.
