To lose a pound of weight a week you must create a 3500-calorie deficit, or burn 500 calories per day more than you eat. Here's an example of how a 150 lbs. person would achieve that:
Your daily calorie intake to lose 1lb. per week:
Add a zero to your body weight 150lbs + 0= 1500
Add 20% for extra daily activity +300
Daily caloric rate = 1800
Subtract 500 calories a day -500
(by eating 500 calories less or by burning 500 calories through exercise)
Total = 1300
EXPLANATION:
So to lose a pound a week, a 150 lbs. person needs to create a 500 calorie deficit from 1800 calories by either exercising or eating less.
Good luck!!!

Yes but your body will do its own self preservation thing where when you loose like five to ten or mabey twenty lbs your body will fight back, and it will start to absorb more from the food you eat getting calories from places on the fruit your body use to waist , so don't be surprised if after you loose a few for some reason you cant loose anymore,, don't get discouraged keep up the prosess and ,, in swings you will loose more ,, in swings , it's slow and steady and forever that keeps you lean , so take your time ,you'll get better and better and better as the years go by , keep it up and you'll lern more and more about what works and what didn't ,, exersise , a little muscle looks nice Not alot just some ..

I'd have to agree. Walking is great for your health, but not a great fat burner.
To be completely honest, a great way to lose weight would be the game Dance Dance Revolution. I know this sounds like a joke, but it's amazing how many calories you can burn on it.
If not that, then then push-ups, sit-ups, jogging etc, things that make you heat up will do better at helping you lose weight.
If you're active enough, you can also maintain or increase your caloric intake, but decrease your fat and sugar intake and that will help your body jump start your metabolism. Eating foods that make your digestive system work (complex carbs, fiber, protein) is a great way to assist your work out plan.

It's very hard to lose that much weight just by walking. Even brisk walking does not burn that many calories. You would be better off learning how to do a bit of weight training. Weight training will burn more calories.
You can also get a good workout dvd, that will get you moving you whole body and not just your legs. That's the problem with walking, even though you move you arms, it isn't enough to burn that many extra calories.
Even jumping rope will burn more calories in less time than walking and jump ropes are very inexpensive to buy or you can make your own. In 30 minutes you'll burn twice as many calories are you will walking.
