I just went in to an allergist today and found out I'm allergic to about every tree, bush, grass, or shrub in my local area. The doctor recommended I start treatment with allergy shots. I think I'm gonna do it but was curious as to how great or not so great these shots will make my breathing! Please share with me!

I had the allergy shots; they helped me a lot. I used to be housebound for five weeks in late summer. Now I don't have any trouble with hayfever. Be cautious with the local honey. I know I am allergic to it. Honey makes me sick; I also have to avoid it in baked goods. I had three shots once per week for five years; then I went twice per month and finally once per month. It was two years before the shots started helping me and five years before I had the maximum benefit. My series of shots lasted nine years. Before I started allergy shots, I was also allergic to most all raw fruits and vegetables- they made me break out in a rash. Now they don't bother me; I can even eat salad!

I've had the allergy shots twice in my life. Once as a kid and then again in my 20's. I was allergic to so much that I needed 2 shots at a time because there were 2 bottles of the serum. It seems like the shots I took in my 20's really helped for about about 15 years or so but lately it seems like my allergies are pretty bad again. I don't know if they start to wear off or what, they shouldn't. I also have asthma and take meds daily for that. It seems like singulair pills at bedtime and using a nose spray such as flonase on a routine basis is the best type of prescriptions in my experience. I have to say that I still don't get as sick as my husband does if I'm out mowing the lawn or doing yard work and I think that is thanks to the last round of allergy shots.

I couldn't agree more with the other poster on the local honey and forgo the shots unless you absolutely just can't breath without them. The people that I have spoken too about them say they don't really help that much. My daughter is allergic to everything under the sun too, but over time she is tolerating things better.

THEY NEVER HELPED ME AT ALL , JUST WASTED MONEY. WHAT I HEAR IS RAW HONEY FROM YOUR AREA WOULD HELP THE MOST. MAKE SURE IT'S FROM YOUR AREA ( THAT WAY THE HONEY BEES MADE IT FROM THE SAME THINGS YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO , IN SMALL DOSES YOUR BODY CAN GET OVER IT ) AND MAKE SURE ITS RAW , TRY TO GET IT FROM BEE KEEPERS IN YOUR AREA
