I heard these two kids talking about a muslim boy named "Muhammad" in my class and one of them said "Muhammad looks like Saddam Hussein" and the other started laughing. Then, they started talking about how he could be a terrorist and bomb the school down. The boy was obviously a nice, and innocent boy. How rude is this, and how can anyone think they have the right to say something like that??

Everyone has the "right" to say whatever they want- they also have the "right" to the consequences that come with such ignorant and irresponsible speech. Any adult that heard this should have had a serious talk with the boys about prejudice and how what they were saying could start rumors and what the consequences of that might be. Any intelligent child that heard the conversation should have steered clear of it and possibly warned these boys that their friends would be lacking if they continued to be ignorant and irresponsible with what came out of their mouths

Not everyone has nice words to say, its how we deal with these words. Also that was rude, but maybe the rude kids were hurt by someone of that boy's race or even that boy. Maybe the rude kids are influenced by parents who may have negative views on certain people. Someone hasn't taught them respect for other ethnicities, life, or dignity . These small things and thoughts like this are what starts racism and fights.

everyone has the freedom of speech, but with freedom comes responsiblity. Respect is what these kids lack. I feel bad for both the boy and the meanful kids because they are only blinded by there own ignorance and are only spreading negativity.

Of course kids and teenagers sometimes say words but don't mean anything by it. Or they are trying to impress someone by getting a laugh.

These kids probably have low self esteems so they pick on other kids before they get picked on.

I wasn't there so I don't know exactly what to say but I hope what I did say helps

GOd Bless

Everyone has the right to an opinion - even if it's uncultured and rude. Not to mention that these are kids we're talking about here. Kids can be really mean. The sad thing is that they have learned this attitude from the media - just as their parents most probably have. No one is there to correct them, to tell them it's wrong, to teach them. Sad....

No. It is inappropriate for anyone to talk this way. Of course, children are traditionally mean toward outcast children. Whether a child is a different race, has a physical deformity, talks different, has outcast parents, etc. It is a tremendous responsibility on the parents to teach appropriate behavior and overcome negative teaching children learn in the world. My wife and I are not prejudice. We teach our children not to be prejudice. We have black and asian friends; we have friends from India. They have all been in our home. But our children have learned a lot of prejudice from school. Many parents are failing in their responsibility to teach their children to love others in the same way that God loves us. I guess I've failed, too, but we keep trying.

Children say silly things. This is the nature of being a child, and why we say things are "childish." Children have the right to be childish, even though it hurts other people... it is like the bites of a puppy, they sting but they don't injure terribly, unless you're another puppy.

You have the unique ability to stand up for the boy. Only another child can do that.

Yes, it is awful that they said that. However, people should have the right to say that if they want. I do think it would be accetable for a teacher to admonish the kids and explain to them how rude it is, but they can't be stopped. People will always say awful things. You can only control what you say.

If the boy in question was of Arab descent he probably does bare some resemblance, as Saddam was an Arab. As to saying mean things about people with middle eastern names, it`s just the done thing at the moment and shows the ignorance of the parents of the other children. Most christians think they have some divine right to be as rude as they please, as they believe that if they are wrong they will be forgiven by their god anyway.

Even 'Mohammed' the NICE and INNOCENT boy does not do any comment then why should you?

Should you think the TWO boys don't have the right to say about Mohammed THE NICE and INNOCENT boy, then why dont you do your right towards them ON THE SPOT?

What is the MORAL of your story?

Just wait until they get older and have full access to Y!A.
Little Rush Limbaughs in the making.

Look around the media and understand where this type of talk comes from. They hear it in the news, they hear it on the street and they likely hear it from their parents.

The language of fear and hatred is what passes as politically correct now. It is how fascism works its tranceformational magic on our society.
