God ordered Moses to kill babies and asked people to set animals on fire. Why?

Moses had to inflict his new religion on mankind with violence. He certainly did a bang up job of it. This is another reason not to believe in god. Would any supreme being be this cruel?

I don't know what Jesus did nor do I know about Moses killing babies. Perchance you would more properly tell us what you are talking about?

God seems to be a bit of a pric in the Bible and since thee stories are inspired I guess He knows that too.

I am assuming you mean animal sacrifice and when the Jews would kill every man, woman, and child in an enemy country, or a traitorous family. Other than that, I have no clue what you mean. There was no human sacrifice, a huge leap for people back then. And animals were killed humanely, then burned. They weren't burned alive. Just so we get the facts straight first....

Atheist answer:
That just proves God isn't real, because it contradicts his so-called loving nature. Keep thinking for yourself. People invent cruel, powerful Gods all the time. Zeus, for example? It just shows the mindset of the people who wrote it back then. No ethics.

Other religion answer:
That's why that's a false God. Good point.

Gnostic answer: There are two Gods, Jesus and God. The God in the Old Testament is vengeful, cruel, and simple. The one in the New Testament is the one we should worship.

Christian, Catholic, Jewish answer:
What God makes, God can take. This life is a breath. It's eternity/paradise that counts. God is taking care of those babies and animals now. They don't mind, because they are living it up.
In that time, life pretty much blew anyway. Maybe it was a kindness he did them. Only he knows. But the enemy armies' babies were born into cultures that would have abused and mistreated them. They would have grown to be cruel like their parents who opposed Israel. God took them before that could happen.
If God exists, who are we to question him when he makes and sees everything? He knows what he is doing. This is why God is allowed to take life. And what you must understand is that in the end he takes all lives as the price of the fall. Everyone dies, and because he loves us, maybe he chooses the 'when' of it for a reason. They would be dead now anyway, eh? And the animals were sacrificed to keep the people safe from God's wrath and to cover their sins before Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice. (Or, as the Jews would say, love.) Animals were put here for people's use. You should not treat them cruelly, but you can use them.

nutcase answer: Because God hates babies and animals!! Ahhh!!! Hide behind a rock or he'll behead your chicken!

-pick one. If there is a God, he created us with free will and intended us to have our pick and opinions.

You will get a chance to ask Him yourself.

Or don't you believe that He exists?

And if you don't, then there is no non-existent God who killed anyone. So, why argue?

u seem to be forgetting something...it wasn't moses that was ordered to kill babies, it was abraham and his son...and even with that example, abraham was ORDERED to do it, but when he was about to do it, he was told NOT to...it was a test to make sure he would fully obey. no harm was brought to his son.
