Salt is a poison to the plant. All life is mostly water, but this water also has a certain percentage of salt. If there is too much salt, the cells will shrivel up and die. Since there is too much salt in the ground, the grass wilts and dies.

Dear everybody know . That Cl (clorum) is e poison for plants!
Poisons are also their salts...Like Na Cl ..(you may find in the water of see).. During the winter we (in Europe) use for ice..the calcium cloride Ca Cl2...and his use is dramatic.
Rust eveyiting, near the road, rust also on cars...Problem also toward the fishes of rivers !..In botany are few the plants that have not damages from Cl ..one is cocco nut..another is rosmarin...(In italian language is "rosmarino")..Every species that live near the see..

you're already on the right track with the salt idea. salt dries stuff out. it will soak up the water that the grass is holding. so when the grass is dry and stuff it dies! and turns yellow and sad! aww! poor grass. :)
