My abusive & money hungry mother is telling my 17 yr old sister than when she turns 18 she HAS to stay home and continue to work and pay $150 rent every month

Isnt it true that once youre 18 youre free to go? We live in Pennsylvania (Can she leave NOW?) She wants to come live with me (I'm her 22 yr old sister) to finish highschool near me.

Esmeralda, to put it bluntly - - NO.

My sister is failing highschool, is severly depressed & promiscuous because my mom calls her worthless all the time. My mom makes her pay $150 PLUS $75 for a cell phone bill she should only be paying $30 for, PLUS $150 to cover both her AND my moms car insurance, PLUS the electric bill which ranges between $150-200 a month

Am i jealous? Not a chance in hell. i feel sorry that my mom has chose to live in a house she cant afford rather than encourage her own children to go to college. She uses her children to work and pay her bills because she is on disability & social security & her own happiness overshadows her childrens

Yes, she is legally an adult and can do what she wants. Mom just wants money.

yes she can move out at 18 she will be considered an adult.
But I think that $150.is not so bad to live at home if that is all your MOM asks for. It's a good way for your sister to learn how to be responsible.... are you sure your not just jealous because you would like to pay $150 for rent. But I guess if you can convince your sister to move in with you the $150 will be yours.

When your sister turns 18, she is legally able to live wherever she chooses. Since your mother is not being a nice person, your sister should NOT discuss her intentions with her. I think she should make her plans and then just move out.

If you think that your mother will try to stop her, you can ask the police to be there when she moves out.

As far as moving before she is 18, you should talk to someone in Children's Services to see what you need to do to make that happen.

Legally, she can definitely leave at age 18. If your mom really presses it, then your sister could actually probably take it to court and get (worst case scenario) an emancipation, because I believe you can get that at any age (but I may be wrong).
She cannot leave legally before age 18, because the courts don't recognize minors of being capable to live without their legal guardian. But as soon as she turns 18, your sister is free to leave.

i think of you will desire to attempt residing which incorporate your sister your mom has to realize that your going to be shifting out quickly sufficient once you get waiting for college and its very confusing for oldsters to enable go yet definitly check it out so which you get the texture of being far off from residing house after which you will be waiting once you go away for college if that is close to or in yet another state.... So tell your mom which you would be able to desire to try this for your self and which you extremely prefer to you need to be greater responsible and start up looking after your self in case you do no longer like it you may constantly go returned residing house and stay which incorporate your mom till at last your waiting so its no longer a foul thought to attempt....... believe me that's going to be confusing to your mom yet she would be in a position to return to appreciate purely supply her some time........ she would be in a position to return around I assure it ..... :)
