Depends on the temp. When it's hot I bring water and stop whenever she pants really heavily.
When it's cool or cold I don't usually bring water. She can go 2-3 (sometimes 4) miles without a problem.
Just watch your dog. If he's panting really heavily or laggin behind or laying down, he needs water.

1.5 miles should not be a problem for a health pit. Your plan sounds good. I have a backpack for my dog and he carries two half size bottles of water (10oz) and a portable bowl when we go hiking but we are usually gone for the better part of the day. What I tell my customers is that the tongue should not be longer than the tail. in other words, make sure he can breath through his panting. If he starts getting labored stop and let him have a drink.

I take my dogs on 3 - 4 mile walks 2x a day and don't carry water. When it's really hot we stop at a drinking fountain at about the halfway mark and towards the end of the walk.

Yes, i would bring water for your dog, even when it isn't really hot. If you are jogging especially, as even you would want to be bringing water then! Just pay attention to how much panting he is doing, how tired he seems to be, and things like that. 3 times sounds about right. when i jog, i don't travel very far, but I will give my dog plenty of water every time I need to take a drink, and so that way I know that he is at least at the same thirst level that I am at.

Pits require lots of exercise daily. !.5 miles is a good place to start.Try taking your dog 1.5 miles 4 times a day and he'll like you more and tear up less.
Yes water is a good idea and he'll let you know when he wants a drink. On very hot days I'd offer water every 20 minutes.

That sounds like plenty on hot days.
I take my dogs on 2 mile walks without water on cool days. 2 miles is nothing for a healthy dog.
