I put a whole chicken (take out the innards first and rinse the bird) in the crock pot, and add water, chicken bouillon, fresh cloves of garlic, celery tops (save the stalks for later) salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning. Simmer in the crock pot for half the day, then add onions, carrots, celery and potato's and continue cooking until all the veggies are tender. Remove the chicken, debone and throw away the skin and icky stuff, then put the meat back into the crock pot and serve. You may want to thicken up the stock with a roux of flour and water mixed up to the consistency of a pancake batter, then put into the crock pot and continue to stir until thickened.
Hope this helps!

Put 2 cups chicken broth in crock pot. Layer potatoes, carrots, onions , celery on bottom. Use a seasoning blend all over your chicken along with some salt & pepper. Put chicken in crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours. I would use a 6 qt. crock pot. The juice in the bottom of the crock pot will make real good gravy,

Cut the chicken into pieces to fit into your slow cooker or leave it whole if it fits, leaving it on the bone but removing the skin. Add some sliced onion, potato pieces (wedges or slices or cubes or whathaveyou,) and carrot slices, and cover everything in water. To the water, add some mashed or minced garlic (or garlic powder) salt and pepper, and maybe a little paprika. Put the lid on, turn the slow cooker on, and go about your business. Come home to a lovely dinner.

Yes, it's just like an old-fashioned pot roast, except it's made with chicken. Yummm! You can cut the chicken off the bone to serve, of you like, in which case you can cut the pieces any way that'll fit into your slow cooker.

You really should have browned the chicken first and then put it into the pot. Is it chicken on the bone or like chicken breast cut into small pieces? If it is chicken on the bone I don't see it cooking fully in four hours. Stick a knife into one of the pieces and see if it is still raw or cooked right through and hot. If you're not sure if chicken is safe to eat, the best thing is to throw it out and buy take-away. Its just not worth getting sick over. If you still intend on eating it no matter what, you should rinse it in vinegar. The vinegar will kill any bacteria. I would throw it away If unsure though.

My grandma's recipe (except for the biscuits), enjoy!

Chicken and Dumplings

1 whole chicken
1 bay leaf
2 tsp garlic salt
6 black peppercorns
6 cups of water
1 cup baby carrots
1 package refrigerator biscuits (10 – 12)

Place chicken in crock pot and add everything except carrots. Cook on low for about 8-10 hours. Remove chicken and de-bone. Pour broth into large pot on stove and heat until boiling. Add carrots and cook for 30 minutes. Thicken broth with cornstarch or flour mixed with cold water. Tear refrigerator biscuits into 3-4 pieces each and drop into boiling broth, lower heat and cover. Simmer for about 5 minutes, until biscuits puff up. Add chicken and carrots, stir, and serve.

Not unless it's dead. Those live ones are funny that way. Seriously, it depends on the size of your crockpot, size of chicken, whether it's cut up, etc. The easiest recipe with chiken I know of is : Put 1/2 a chicken in 2 cups of water and one cup of chicken broth. Add 2 cups of rice. Season with salt, pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of allspice, 1/2 teaspoon of tumeric, and one jar of pimentos.Heat on high for 30 minutes. Simmer on slow for 3 to 4 hours,or until; rice is firm. I suppose you could double it up for a whole chicken.
