if you make a sensible offer for a monthly payment most collection agencys will agree to that,,provided you stick to the agreement, the courts will reinforce that with an order.
unfortunatly you will be responsible for any court costs.
try to settle it before that happens and save yourself a fortune (circa £300.00 uk courts)

Firstly, I would suggest that its got to be possible for you to pay the whole debt back with what you're offering eventually. If it isn't then the other party will have reasonable grounds to argue this decision/offer.

Although if you can produce a credible monthly budget, supported by payslips and documentation that supports the fact that you can only afford £1 per month then they'll have to take it.

If the other party think that you can afford more then they will appeal against this and you will be forced to produce a monthly budget that will reveal what you can afford.
If it is decided in court that you owe the debt then I'm afraid costs will be awarded against you.

Contact the CAB about making a sensible offer.

I would advise you to make an offer of repayments (at at rate you can reasonably afford) to the debt collector. If they refuse your offer than this will not look to good on those refusing it.

I doubt 1 pound per month would be considered reasonable, however 5-10 pounds would be.

You can offer paying £1.00 per month, but you need to show the court proof of earnings and outgoings to confirm the reason why you can pay £1.00 per month

Legally if you offer to pay £1 per month they have to accept it - although they will tell you no. It is better to offer £5 pm
