One of many reasons, but yes. If the exhaust re-circulation circuit is malfunctioning you'll get excess NOx gases which will trigger the light.
But there are MANY other reasons for that light to come on.

Yes, is a very common cause on some cars. As the above said, get the fault codes read and they will get a definite answer. It may be something as simple as a faulty sensor reading or an O2 sensor. There are many things that can cause that light to come on.

People are confusing the "service engine" light with the Malfunction indicator light.
The service engine light is to remind you of routine maintenance, such as changing the oil, and depending on the mileage other service as well.
The MIL, or check engine light is the one that tells you there is something wrong with your engine.
When you get your oil change and other service done, reset the light and when the next service interval comes it will relight to remind you.

Yes and a big No.Even a loose gas cap will make the light comes on and stay on until reset,so get it scanned for codes, free at Autozones, instead of guessing and throwing parts at it.

that can be it ,but you need to really get it scanned to find out for sure, there's a lot of sensors on that vehicle and any one of them will cause that light to come on,take it by any advance or auto zone ad have them scan the computer and see why it has came on,any trouble code it has will come up,and this will help you with repairing it,it could be one of 40 different things making it come on though, without scanning it you,ll never know for sure, good luck with it.
