You need an anti-inflammatory medication.
There are two basic types of over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications:
NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin), naproxen sodium (Aleve), and ketoprofen (Orudis KT).
Acetaminophen (Tylenol and Panadol).
I would use the ibuprofen.

Use an NSAID for pain; that is, any over-the-counter pain med *except* Tylenol; acetominophen does nothing for inflammation.
Caffeine will help, too; it makes the pain med work better. And cold may be useful. So if you take some ibuprofen or Anacin with a glass of iced Pepsi, that would be pretty good.
Be careful not to freeze the tissue!

I think that the best medicine that is good for the pain would be Anacin, I have been using it for almost forty years and it always helps me with any kind of pain I get. As for the swelling, I think that Ice is a good remedy to get the swelling to go down.

When my son wrecked his bike the er doctor recommended Motrin for both the swelling and the pain in his lips and face. She also recommended ice packs for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Good Luck.

Ibuprofen will help with the swelling and with the pain If you are an adult, you can take up to 800 mgs. of Advil every 8 hours. You can also apply ice to bring down swelling. This will all help you, and I don't know how you got hurt, but if someone hit you, please take care of yourself.
