I'm trying to figure out the best way to put my dad's name and dates on a headstone for my mother's grave. He chose to be cremated and it seems not quite right to make a headstone with both their names on it as if they are both buried in the cemetery when only my mother is. But I can't think of another way to do it. Any ideas would be a great help.

you could bury his ashes in the grave. most cemeteries allow for that. if not, just add the same details on the existing stone as you would for someone buried there as long as there's room on it.

If I were you, I would have the headstone inscribed as you would if he had chosen to be buried .
