Because when I tell someone how I feel about God, the first thing out of their mouth is "If you don't believe then you will burn in hell". You have no idea how many times a day I get emailed that statement when I never even initiated the conversation to start with. 99% of the time I have no idea who they are or why they felt the need to email me and tell me this in the first place.
EDIT: I just received this in my email...
From: ****** (I masked the name)
Subject: hi
Message: i don't know your twisted life but if you don't change your ways God will judge u and u will go to hell...

You seem like a nice person, and I work to always be respectful toward everyone, regardless of who they are. But from the atheist standpoint, the way you put your questions alone is egocentric. "Choose to turn away from the light of God". In reality you are choosing to turn toward the light of your god, which is great for you, but that has nothing to do with me, and it's imposing of you to assume that it does.
Christianity in general is a rather imposing religion. They're always trying to convert people, and if we won't be converted, then we are threatened. I prefer Judaism. If I'm not Jewish, then I don't get to be unless I work really really hard to be one. GREAT! Thank you! Awesome. Do your thing, and I'll do mine, and we'll live in harmony and respect each other's space.

It's a good question.
It's simple in a way, people have been divided throughout history with regard to God and then later in regard to accepting God's son.
People don't like laws or rules or dogma, hell I don't either and I'm a Christian, but I recognise that the laws of the land and the laws of God are there for a reason, they are there to protect us, not punish us...
At the end of time God will divide the world into 2 camps, sadly only a relative minority will enter into everlasting life, why? because so many hate God and His ways, they hate Righteousness and avoid the Light because their deeds are evil......this world needs a Saviour look how sick it has become...

Hi.....
Respectful about 'god'??
Have you seen what humanity has done in the name of this so called 'god'!!
If you lot had your way, we would not have the free society, that we enjoy today.
Women would be back in the kitchen, serving man, because of the 'myth' of eve opening the box!
Black people could still be slaves, because it was the statement: 'The dark race shall be the slaves of men', that gave the slave traders the excuse to make it all happen!
Homosexuals would still be persecuted, if not murdered, because they're different and it supposedly says somewhere in the bible about it being un-natural and against 'gods' wishes!
Anyone of a different faith, like pagans would have been totally destroyed, genocide, because they refused to believe in your mythical deity!
Would you really like it all to be like that?
I bet deep down, that is how you feel, it would have to be, if you followed the bible correctly, word for word!!
Do you know how good it feels to 'not' believe in your horrible mythical deity and religion!!
That goes for allah and islam too!!!
You want respect for your deities?
LOL!!!!

If you just use your belief in Christainity to live your own life the way you want to then that is wonderful.
But some people want their religion to be the Law of the Land, to be taught in public schools, to effect medical decisions, and to be the standard by which every single person on Earth lives their lives. Those are the people who we feel need to be feared and who we need to fight against.

The problem is that religion is supposed to define your existence.
You can make comments about celebrities, football teams and rap music, and the feelings will eventually die down. You punk on stuff people either learned in Bible school or were taught to believe as kids (Christians) or that they believe to be a lie holding the rest of society back (atheists) and you have struck to the bone.
God-lovers may not be right, and atheists may not be right either. I say, relax. Only dedication to science can break the truth to us.

Brother Christ said HE came to turn father against son and mother against daughter for HIM. What makes you think people will be respectful in the light of that. If you think being respectful of other beliefs is what GOD wants then you do not know GOD.

because they are unbelievers, and blasphemers. Just like the rich man that didn;t believe he could go to hell, well, when he got there he wanted to cool his tongue so badly and begged to be able to tell his people back among the living to warn them of Hell, well, as Jesus told him, if you didn't believe me, and I am the Son of God, what makes you think they will believe you!
Translation... they are being like little children that believes there is a Santa, you cant change their minds until their eyes can see... they are in darkness other words... until a situation in their lives, or the Lord desires to show them a manifestation, then they are still in the darkness and when that day comes they too will be like the rich man in Hell that wanted to warn his family of the truth of God and hell..

I respect Christians and anybody for that matter. I am only tired of coming across the people that tell me I am going to hell because I don't believe in god. I don't belong to any religion and don't believe in god (not hate him) but I do believe in what I believe in.

Are you respectful when you vote to enforce your morals on others? How is trying to teach "pseudo-science" in public schools respectful?
Granted, you as an individual may not participate in these activities but they're definitely part of the Christian Agenda - the sad thing is, is that there is more of a Christian agenda then there is of an atheist or gay.

I think it is because there are alot of disrespectful people out there in the world and I have seen, for myself, alot of disrespect going on in all aspects of religion/spirituality section. It is really a shame that people in general are not respectful of each other.
