as it is for beginners, i don't need to wear the regular boots and stuff, do i? i dont have the time to go looking for a suitable pair.
what do they do on the first lesson, is it just theory?

All you need is a comfy pair of jeans that you won't care about getting dirty, and depending on the weather dress appropriately up top as you will be outside. As for boots, the reason to wear them is because of the stirrups, but sneakers work just fine, just don't wear sandals or flipflops. They will give you the basics on how to handle the horse, and then you ride. Beginners usually get the easy going horses.

When I took one, we wore jeans, tennis shoes or other durable outdoor shoes (boots are best and since some riding is commanding the horse w/your feet, a hearty shoe may have better result with the animal).
