I just got a Ford Expedition and I love it. It is nice to have something that will grow with the family, and carpools, etc.

I think a Toyota Highlander would be a good choice. It's got the size of an SUV but is on a car platform so it handles great the V6 engine is pretty peppy, too. The 2007-2008 models includes side curtain airbags standard which is a great safety feature. The re-sale value is awesome, another feature you should consider before making your purchase. I would stay away from Hyundai's, Kia's and any Ford products.

A crossover would probably be a great idea. I (26 yo part time working, mother of 1) was looking at the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, but ended up with an Eddie Bauer Explorer because with all of the incentives it was too good a deal to pass up. I got an awesome deal and it was a nice change/down size from my previous gas guzzling, global warming Expedition.

Considering the current state of the economy, you probably need to keep the old one and pay it off. There is no telling how high gas is going to gas. I traded up to a Honda Element, now I am struggling to make the payments. I drive a lot and spend about 120 a week in gas...that's more than my vehicle payment. If I had known what I was in for as far as the price of gas goes, there is no way I would have gotten rid of old faithful...she was paid off!

A mini-van. Four good ones are the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Chevy Uplander (the Chevy is the cheapest, but one of my favorites). Probably the Odyssey is the best but it starts at $25,645

I added some sites that might help.

Tell a neighbour that you trust, that she is home alone and if they would just keep an ear out just in case. Leave any contact numbers by the phone in case she needs to get hold of you. Even though you said you trust her with cooking maybe cook her something before you go out, this way you won't have to worry about her using the oven and that (One less worry for you). Lock the doors but leave a key with her in case she needed to get out, and just tell her what to do in an emergency. I'm sure she will be fine, she sounds very mature for her age, but as long as she is comfortable with being by herself for two hours, tell her you trust her!

A 2008 Ford Expedition would be perfect. You can get a fully loaded one for no more than $40,000-$42,000. Check it out here: http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/expedition/

If you want to go a tad smaller, check out the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. It has a totally redesigned interior, more features, more safety features, minor exterior changes, and rides a whole lot classier. http://www.automedia.com/NewCarBuyersGuide/photos/2006/Mercury/Mountaineer/SUV/2006_Mercury_Mountaineer_ext_1.jpg http://z.about.com/d/suvs/1/7/u/J/-/-/Dash.jpg Check it out here: http://www.mercuryvehicles.com/mountaineer/?s_kwcid=mercury%20mountaineer|564404700&gclid=CIPd6P6b8Y4CFQKhIgodUCrtJg

Now a tad smaller than that, check out the 2007 Ford Edge or Lincoln MKX. They both featured the top safety pick by JD Powers and Associates. http://www.lincoln.com/mkx/home.asp?s_kwcid=lincoln%20mkx|1000109354 http://www.fordvehicles.com/crossovers/edge/?searchid=426441|15932595|80549089

Some kind of van, like a Dodge Caravan. You will have plenty of space and they are just as much fun to drive as any cadillac

You need a Van- preferably something with 2 captain seats, and 2 bench seats, each of which can hold 2 or 3 people.

Cause they've got friends as they get older,,,and they're gonna need those seats then.

I suggest either a Grand Am, or an Alero, Alero would probably be the best, it drives really smooth too! They also look cool!
