It's funny, two of my three Cairns are fine with being photographed (the other one won't look at the camera when I need him to...don't think he "gets it"!)
My youngest (4 month old) seems to even know what it's for...I was at a ceremony with her recently and several camera crews were there (one setting up the camera specifically to get footage of her), and she did excellently...almost sickeningly cute! (She knew what strings to pull when the camera was on her). When other attendees pulled out their camera for her, she would suddenly calm down and stare right into the camera, as if we'd be able to convey exactly what we wanted from her in dog language. It was eerie!

I had a Lab that would bark and growl if his picture was taken. Then my other Lab would sit there very nice until I am just ready to snap the picture and he would close his eyes.
Now I just got a Yorkshire Terrier (very different from Labs) he is 8 weeks old and I have taken about a dozen pictures and he just sits there and poises.

I don't think my dogs understands that I am trying to take a picture. I just snap the picture when they are acting normal. I don't try to pose them, they would never stay for that.

Both of my dogs are total hams when it comes to the camera. i have some great poses of both of them. Unfortunately they have short attention spans, so I can't spend more than 5 minutes posing them before they get bored and try to play with me, each other or the camera.

My current will not sit still for me to take picture. I have to have my camera always ready in order to get something nice.
But, I used to have one. He sat very still for me to take picture. Very often, we found out he was in the picture after the film was developed, but he was not mean to be in the picture in the first place.

My dogs LOVE the camera! I attribute it to the celebration and excitement I exhibit after a picture is taken. I started that at very young age, so now they come running when they see the camera. It is really very cute :)

you know the really cute ****** head that dogs make when they're curious? my puppy does that EVERYTIME he sees a flash from the camera, so unless he's doing something really cute on the first shot, i usually end up with crooked head photos of him, lol. ears perked up and everything. :P

My cavalier will remain still when he sees the camera. My pitbull tries to lick or smell the camera, squirms and looks the other way. I think the flash bothers her.
