I need some serious advice before I start give myself an even bigger headache. I'm a middle class student, with an average GPA (3.6). I want to be a Dentist, so I decide, knowing the insanes amount of money it takes to go to college for atleast 8 years would make me debt for the rest of my life. SO I decide to attend community college for my first two years! Now, I'm trying to decide what college to go to, and the amount of money is rediculous. My parents can't help me with this amount of money! I don't qualify for financial aid! What about the middle people! Scholarships don't really help becuase you have to show that you're poor, the poor people are already getting money from the government, what about the MIDDLE people? How am I supposed to pay for undergaradute schools and dental school? Theres supposedly so much help out there, but not for people like me!

No, you do not have to be poor to get a college scholarship. Some state colleges and universities actually give scholarship money for those transfering to their institution with an excellent GPA from a community college. In regards to outside scholarships, there are many scholarships not tied to your family income, but they are judged on the essay and the application you submit to them for consideration. I will include some free resource websites to locate money to attend college. Good luck!

It's absolutely not true that scholarships and financial aid are only available to poor people. Virtually everyone qualifies for federal student aid of some type. You need to apply for your FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) to find out how much you're eligible for - almost everyone is eligible for a federal Stafford loan, which can give you up to $5,500/year as a junior or senior.
While you're waiting for the FAFSA process to be completed, start applying for every scholarship you can find. Check local community organizations, churches, your (or your parents) workplaces and do an online search.

You made a smart move by starting at a less expensive school - don't give up. With the right information and planning, you can find a way to get through dental school.

As a parent who's daughter owes 100,000 in student loans who's parents are middle class, I can understand your pain!! The best thing is to fill out the Fafsta form. You do qualify for student loans and parent plus loans. Going to the community college to get rid of the core classes is great, make sure that they do transfer.
as for paying off the student loans. My daughter luckily got a job in her field ( she's an engineer). She is throwing extra money @ the loans and living at home because she can not afford to get an apartment near work. She had to buy a new car because her car is dying and the commute to work is 500 miles per week. So with a car payment and student loans, she will be staying home for awhile.
This situation does suck, but the best thing is sit down with your parents and figure out ahead of time on how to do this.
The military is an option, but then again Uncle Sam owns your butt for 6 years..
Wish the news was better for you and I wish you all the luck in the world.!!!

The middle people are SCREWED. Poor get handouts from the government. Rich people get hooked up by their family.

Working middle class get assed out. There has to be some kind of loan you can get though. If you go to a public school, you can get by with loans and working to pay expenses as you go. Best way to stay out of deep dept, imo. Private university is a whole nother ball game.

Best of luck.

If you're middle class, your parents could help you some.
Then find scholarships.
Get a loan then pay back with that dentist job of yours.
Work during the summer.
Thats what I did, eventually I paid back the loans after working as a dentist.

Did you or are you trying to apply for Fafsa? Even if you are middle class, there might be something for you. Also you can work-study in college which helps.
Don't give up, Nicole.
