My Nikon D50 will corrupt images on my memory card (2GB Sandisk Ultra II). I haven't found steps I can take to specifically reproduce the problem, however through research I've learned this can happen when I delete images from my memory card using my camera.

Why I should avoid that doesn't make sense to me. I delete files all the time on my computer, and nothing happens. Why can't I delete images on my digital camera?

Interesting problem!

Lots of electronic devices--even such a great thing as a Nikon D50--have 'bugs' that are discovered only after they sell a few million of them. Sometimes there's a webpage somewhere, posted by an owner or owners' group (never by the manufacturer) explaining what causes the problem and how to work around it. So do some Googling and see if you find anything.

I'm assuming you've already tried another memory card, if not do. It might be just that kind or that speed of memory card.

Meanwhile, you probably have a card reader, which is better anyway. With a 2GB card you probably don't have to delete pics very often.

Check to see that your D50 has the latest firmware installed... Nikon may have fixed the problem you're having.

In case you're not aware, you also need to re-format your memory card while in the camera, once in a while... That also helps to prevent corruption by removing ALL old data that just deleting an image doesn't remove.

The way digital cameras and computers handle files is bit different, I think your problem occurs when your camera overwrites some bytes that your computer needs.

One simple solution that you could try to format your Card from the Camera so it can arrange the files the way it wants.

Another solution has been already given : Try to upgrade your Camera Firmware.
