I sorta agree with the first answer. Larry didn't have all the belts, but he was considered undoubtedly THE heavyweight champ of that era. Whether or not he unified the titles, he'd have held them until father time caught up to him like it did. And, yah, he'd have whupped Tate. If memory serves, Cooney was supposed to fight Tate, and presumably win that and then have the unification fight between Holmes and Cooney, but as is common with boxing, politics interfered.

well that whole unified thing wasn't that big of a deal back then...anyway, he held onto the title until he abdicated the WBC belt to avoid Greg Page, which he still would have done if he had the WBC/WBA, simply because the IBF had recently announced themselves and they were desperately looking for some affirmation and recognition. They got it when Holmes ducked his number one contender and took the IBF belt. So, I think he'd have held it till then.

too bad we never got too see holmes-tate, big john would have gave larry fits with his size and boxing skills. but larry would have kod him in the end. holmes would hold belts as long as he wanted to or when promoters would pay judges to take it from him like in the 2 michael spinks fights. holmes never avoided page, dokes, pinklon or anyone else, its just that he wanted the right money for big fights like that and king was too crooked to give it to him
