libraries were converted into playgrounds?

Holy lord...I am so on board with you here. Libraries in the past, present, and future are designated quiet places. I asked a guy to stop talking on his cell phone a few years ago in the library at the university...and he tried to fight me. The librarians should be the ones to regulate this...but if they don't then I am glad to tell someone to keep it down.

SILENCE!!!

Yes, they are designated quiet zones. If you can't handle that, don't patronize them. My local public libraries require that cell phones be turned off when entering. They also do not allow children and kids under 17 between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. on weekdays because of the unruliness. Libraries are usually mobbed with "latchkey" kids after school hours. It's quite annoying to have the little buggers disrupting everybody, so I was happy about that rule being put in place.

My local librariers are hard-nosed about noise, and I'm glad about that. Go outside if you need to talk.

I agree. The librarians just grit their teeth because they are trying to make the library a friendly place.. but it's maddening! I'm hoping ours will give teens their own room for socializing.

The flipside is that my autistic 23-year-old tends to squeak a bit, especially where we are doing interesting research, so at least nobody is trying to kick him out of there, as long as it's obvious that I'm reminding him to shush.

It's not just teens that make lots of noise in the library, grown adults that should know better do too!
It just goes to show how selfish and inconsiderate they are!
Maybe these are people that were born in a barn! LOL!

It is an old rule but a good one. It all comes down to consideration and for heaven's sake turn off your cell phone.

Silence in the library! It is rude to be otherwise.
