I find it hard to hit my 3wood especially off of the fairway, and recently saw a 15* hybird. I assumed this would be easier to hit especially off of the fairway. However i switching to the hybrid means i'll lose distance then theres no point because i can hit my 5wood just fine. Has anyone tried one of these clubs, will it mean that i loose distance?

They should go the same distance. The hybrid will have much more forgiveness and control. Go for the hybrid.

I went to a 16 degree hybrid over a 3 wood because it is more versatile. The wood will go further because it has more mass than the hybrid. Hybrids are usually used to replace long irons not woods. A hybrid is a lot better out of rough and tough lies in the first cut or fairway. I also find it useful for bump and runs around the green. If distance is your only consideration you will want to stick with the three wood. I have shuffled around many clubs in my bag. It was tough for me to get away from a traditional setup in my bag. The bottom line is if you hit clubs with more loft like your 5 wood better maybe you should carry a 5 wood and a 18 degree hybrid and skip the 3 wood or maybe add another wedge to your bag. There are many pros that play par 5 with three aproach shots so don't feel distance is the most important factor.

All things equal, a 15 degree hybrid and 3-wood should both hit the ball the same distance due to the angle of the clubface. However, there are other factors that affect a club's playability, namely, the shaft. Make sure that when you test both clubs that the same shaft is in each club so that you're comparing apples to apples. Different manufacturers will have varying performace within their clubheads as well so you'll probably want to demo the same manufacturer's clubs (hybrid vs. 3-wood) in order to make a proper decision.

I hit a wonderful 5 wood hybrid (18 degrees) and a fantastic 7 wood hybrid (22 degrees) but have tried several 15-17 degree hybrids without success. Try Adams or Nickent or better yet, have the folks at Golfsmith build you one with their Snake Eyes brand. They would help with your shaft, head, grip specs. Good luck. A 15 hybrid will go as far as 3 wood if you get right one

if you made perfect swings with both clubs the 3 wood will be longer b/c of the deeper cg and bigger head, the hybrid will be easier to hit off the ground though, there would bnot be that much difference distance wise. That being said you will not make perfect swings with them. i would say go with what you hit best and consider how often you use it, i only hit my 3 wood of the ground once every other round or so, but i hit it off the tee 5 or 6 times a round, and i havnt hit hybrids well off the tee so i carry woods and no hybrids, think about how ofetn you need it and what you hit better and go with it, also test alot of clubs before you make any changes

Should not loose distance and should gain some control.
