As with many I assume, depression makes school difficult for me. It is very difficult to concentrate in class and to do things like focus on homework or reading. It feels like I am often falling behind hopelessly, leaving me in difficult situations. I manage to do pretty well still, but it is a painful and stressful process. Any tips/advice from people who have experienced similar things?

Go see your doctor. Depression can be treated. If your doctor can't or won't help, keep trying. Talk to a school counselor, your parents, a priest or minister or rabbi if you believe in that. You can have a happy, normal life, but you have to take the first step, and keep trying. It's not easy, but if you stay with it, you can do it.

And it's worth it.

If you feel like you need a little help, it is best to seek it. Everyone will benefit from talking to a good counselor at least once or twice in their life. The only mistake people make is settling for the first one they find rather than trying several out...looking for someone you feel comfortable talking to, but who challenges you to move beyond your current (habitual, troublesome) thinking patterns. Beyond that you need distraction and activity. Sure, work through the sadness and the "issues" but focus that energy on a professional counselor: that limits the time (avoiding obsessive and repetitive thoughts) and keeps on the narrow path of moving on to the next, positive time in your live. The best distraction for people with depressive issue is whatever gets you out in the real world helping other people with other problems...
