Just smile and say yes i'm fine- You?
They will sy fine aor alright and walk on.

My friends husband has never learned this despite being english and if anyone says alright he says ' well actually...' and launches into a lengthy description of all his ailments. He's a bit of a hypochodriac and most people avoid him if possible.

Always say fine even if you aren't, and how are you. Enjoy your vacation.

it's just an abbreviation of "are you ok?" or "how are you"? Respond as you would to any other greeting.

They say "Alright?"
You reply "Awight?"
They repeat "Alright?"
Once again you reply "Awight?"
