A hasty pullout could result in radical groups, even Bin Laden's buddies, taking control of the country. With $8 BILLION dollars in oil revenues, they'll be able to buy any kind of weapon, up to and including nukes, to strike any western country they want. Think 9/11 was bad? Think the war is bad? If Iraq falls into the hands of terrorists, 9/11 is going to look like a Sunday picnic and all of the war protesters that aren't glowing or gassed will be screaming that we should've done more to establish a solid government before pulling out. Hide and watch.

Personally, I'd rather not give that much power to a bunch of nut cases.

About six months to two years of civil strife, until a new strong man emerges, probably secular like Saddamm, and gets them off each other's throats.

This in contrast to the current plan of letting them continue with their civil strife, while we wait for the Talibani regime to figure out how to create something as unlikely as a democratic nation.

I am not sure I see much difference, except that our troops won't be dying.

You're call as to which course is best.

I go for the one that spares more of our troops.

Which according to some, makes me a horrible person.

Civil war, cut off of oil, if Iran ever gets a nuclear weapon the end of the world, possibly world war 3.

Russia and China would get involved in the ensuing bloodbath which would make us get involved again and then we have a large scale war.

Whether we pull out now or later, Iraq will go back to civil war.

Internal civil war, plus a domino effect in the surrounding muslim countries: pretty much all hell breaking loose and a "power grab".

You wanna see atrocities? let's leave 25 million innocent Iraqi civilians to defend themselves against terrorists, militais and death squads while they are fighting for power. That to me is an atrocity.
