Its really all a matter of aesthetics, and personal choice, for instance which is better oil paints or watercolors? Neither are better they are just different.
Of course technical arguments can be made on either side of the table, but in the end neither is a clear winner. There are times when it makes more sense to shoot digital, and there are times when it makes more sense to shoot film. However, to elaborate by the term film, I am not just refering to 35mm, there are a lot of other superior formats other than 35mm such as 120, 4x5, 8x10 etc...

It depends on what you want or what your objective is. If your goal is to have a really nice wall size portrait or print of any type, film would definitely give you finer grain and definition. If you want to send lots of images via the internet, want instant gratification and likely don't care for any size over 11 X 14....then digital will satisfy your wants. Ultimately, it would be optimum to have both types of cameras.

It is a matter of personal choice in most situations. I happen to prefer film and plan to use it until one of us - film or me - ceases to exist. (Okay, I'll manage somehow if hopefully I out-last film hehe.)

I occasionally have 16x20 prints made from my 35mm negatives - and I'm a stickler for quality.

Debating about "which is better" is, IMO, as pointless as trying to push a rope. Photography is photography and if you have the skills and experience you'll get good results regardless of how you preserve the image.

Digital is almost universal now, but if advertising agency customers want something done really well, they still specify film.
