Dreams of deceased relatives can possibly be lucid dreams in which the loved one actually is communicating to you their love and that they are still with you and are well and happy. Lucid dreams are vivid dreams in which they often feel very real and you are actually there in your dreams.
68% of all persons interviewed in one study reported seeing their deceased relatives after they passed, either in dreams or through visitations. It is very common. I am inclined to believe that your dad really is communicating to you in your dreams, since I received two visitations from my deceased husband the first year after he passed away. These were actual experiences, not dreams however.

It sounds like you are working out your grief in your dreams...
There are five stages associated with the grieving process, we don't all necessarily move through all five stages, and we don't all necessarily go through the stages at the same pace. The stages are: denial, bargaining, anger, depression, and acceptance. It sounds like you are working out feelings somewhere in between the first two....I'm curious if it is that he sometimes is fine in the dream, and sometimes has a cane, or if it has been a progression where you started with having dreams that he was entirely fine, and then started having dreams where he was using a cane? The line of thought I am following is, if it is a progression, then the dream of him being entirely fine might indicate that you were in the first stage at the time, and if it progressed to him walking with a cane, then it could be a signal you entered the second phase of bargaining, something like, well it would be ok if he had made it back, even if not in good health just so long as he could come back to you....I hope you understand the line of thought I am following here....

You still see him the way you expect a "human" to be...
that is why he may have a cane and have the stroke...
when I dream of my dad, he's happier and more at peace
than ever in life...he was usualyl strict and hardly ever smiled.
now in my dreams he's is happy and easy going..winks.
I think I believe in heaven, and if I get a dream that I visit
my dad or he visits me, I really think his heart and mine do meet. I know he's in heaven and whole, and that one day
I will cross over and get there too. I am not sure of much,
but I just hope that...because It brings me hope
I's rough, to wake up each morning, see the sunlight,
inhale and then remember that he is gone...
and mine has been gone 5 years....
somehow the magic died out of my life when he passed.
My husband lost his mother aobut 6 years ago...
and he is still torn up about it. I am not sure he thinks
he will ever see her again...and he aches for a hug
and just to hear her say his name once more...wink.
but I cannot go dow n that road. I know that there is
a spirit life, and I know we will not jsut fade away...
so I look forward to seeing my dad and his mom again...
and I can't wait to say, "I told you so" to him, in joy
and comfort as we dance all together...over the rainbow.
If I live with rose colored glasses, oh well.
at least I held joy..instead of ashes...
hope instead of sorrow.
Hugs to you. I know it's rough,
but every day the sun rises boldy to light up the earth...
givig us warmth and ablity to change the day.
to keep promises that we made, to meet new friends,
and to discover new things...
we aren't alone all that long...and there are needs
here that only we can fill...so stay busy and keep
helping out...days will pass...and you will keep learning.
Hugs.

I doesn't have to mean anything other then the truth which is that you wish he had made it.
I occasionally dream about my Dad who died 14 years ago and I now ejoy them because the visions are SO clear, SO realistic that it is some precious moments that I can have with him again that I can't in my waking hours. The last thing I try to do is rationaise or suppress them. I wish I could have dream about him on request but it's not like that.

To dream of your father means you are seeking security, comfort from life or from someone. The father dream is the personification of a bad conscience (particularly if your father was the primary disciplinarian). It could mean you have a suppressed longing to lean on someone or to be guided by someone. Seeing your own father you feel you are bringing shame to your family and owe your father an apology. Dreaming about your deceased father, help is on the way or someone is making you very happy. It also could be a confrontation with your boss or with a person in authority. The cane, help is on its way. Stay calm. Whichever situation you are in from the above is up to you to apply to your circumstances.

My dad died last year and he started showing up in my dreams when I wondered if he was okay. He kept telling me that I am okay now you need to be. Sometimes I think it is a way of communicating with those that are left behind. If you read Sylvia Brown, she says that your body goes to the age of 30. You might want to read some of her books. Very healing and interesting. I hope this helps. I am sorry for your loss.

IMO... your subconscious is trying to work through dealing with the loss. I had a lot of dreams about my mom after she passed (I was 13). Some good, some not so good. I still have the occasional dream 17 years later. I had dreams about my dad after he died (I was 24) but not as many. I think I was older and able to deal with it better. I dream about him still, as well.
I am so sorry for your loss. It sucks.

I had a dream the night my father passed away and it was very basic, he looked over his shoulder at me and said, "I'm OK" and I believe it really was him wanting me to know that he was OK. I've had other dreams, and in almost every dream I know that he shouldn't really be there, but enjoying the fact that he is....
So I believe it could be a message from him to let you know he is no longer suffering and is OK.
I think you should take it as comfort....
Sorry about your loss.

My closest aunt died in 2003. I had dreams of her all the time. I think it's because you're always thinking of him. That's what dreams are what you're thinking about as you're sleeping. I believe after a while the dreams will stop, but I know you'll never stop thinking of your dad. I feel very sorry for you.
