In my Outlook email the passwords disappear!?

In my Outlook (2002), now under Vista, I have set up several POP3 email accounts, but the passwords keep disappearing every time I close and re-open my Outlook account, even though the "remember password" box is ticked

Seems this is a problem since Microsoft has a page for how to fix it.

Read everything several times and make sure you do what they say so you don't lose all your old emails (if this is even possible). I did not read the article thoroughly.
