I personally dont think its something you can control..you can distract yourself for a while..but the thoughts will be there for a while..just while you get over that person..believe me..sometimes it could take longer than expected

Get on with your life.
Your brain can only think about so much at any one time, so keep it fully occupied. Don't be lazy and sit around thinking about how sad your life is without this person.
Use this as an opportunity to get out and fill your life with other things. This life isn't a rehearsal, it's the only life you'll have, and it would be awful at the end of it to think that you'd wasted a moment dreaming about what might have been instead of making the most of every minute.

If I had the answer to that one I would be unseemingly rich and loving in the South Seas on my own private isle.
I don't think you can force yourself to stop thinking of someone. All you can do is find other things to occupy your mind and your thoughts. When this person pops into your head, change the channel by doing something so unrelated to this person that you forget about them for the time being. Eventually they will stop occupying your thoughts and you can move on.

Emerse yourself in something else. Work, school, girlfriends, family time, art, photography, clubs... anything that will take your mind off of the "someone" you can't stop thinking about. I find that creativity is at it's highest during times like these. Write or weave a basket! Christmas is coming. Make gifts.

It's hard to just completely stop thinking of a person, and you shouldn't feel bad if you do. It's natural. After a period of time you might start thinking about the person a lot less, and eventually hardly at all.

Stop thinking about how to stop thinking about them as this is just a vicious circle. Keep yourself busy. It must be the biggest cliche ever but in time everything really does get easier.

so there's a guy that you can't stop thinking about. you think about him like 24 hrs a day. if you want to stop, just ask yourself why are you wasting your time and your life thinking about him. thinking about someone for a long time, and then nothing coming out of it is just plain depressing. its pointless to waste your life like that or feeling stuff that is unnecessary. doing that just brings negative things into your life, not positive. so stop tiring out your mind and your heart doing unecessary and pointless thinking, when you can be doing something so much more productive, like talking to your friends, or going after a guy with whom you know things are going to work out. dont waste your life on pointless things.

You get into music and learn to play an instrument, or you go out with your friends, if it does not work, you try to get into sports, you go dancing and meet new people, you go jogging, you learn how to paint. Anything that will take all of your attention and concentration will help! Get a new circle of friends that would not remind you of that person.
Good luck dear Heart

It cannot be done by resolving not to think about the person. It might be done by finding other interests, other people to think about. In the long run, that should work.
