If you have little money, you maybe OK. They would not be that much interested to you.

D.Chen: I can believe that. They can force a man to do anything, give all its money, etc. so just make him stops alcohol must be easy. Benefits for the society? Not sure.

cosmo: So you do believe it. I guess you just want to believe that religions were all created that way, and all these great men speaking the message of God are just like Ron L Hubbard. This is a ridiculous belief. Scientology was created for money, only for money, nothing else. It uses harmful tactics. It destroys the life of its opponents. Religions were not created that way, not at all.

You know here's my ethical knot with Scientology.

I'm not too fond of their message - but i've seen verifable proof that their alcohol and drug rehab centers do have extremely high success rates of getting people off their specific addictions.

So they do have a value-add effect on society.

there's a *extensive* distinction between maximum religions and Scientology. maximum religions have long background of genuine perception, inspite of the fact I disagree with them. Scientology began out a rip-off so L Ron Hubbard could make money and Scientology continues to be a rip-off. countless the ideals espoused by using Scientology are so a good distance obtainable interior the area of technology fiction and fantasy, basically the main insane (Hubbard) or gullible man or woman would desire to easily create or have faith such nonsense. If there is an occasion of ways consumer-friendly that's to fool human beings into believing basically approximately something, no be counted how stupid or irrational, Scientology is that occasion.

I dont think I believe that they are a religion, altho I understand why they would claim that back in the 1950's. But their courses are really good stuff.

Im afraid your money comments dont work though. According to anti-scientology sites some 62% of people just take the first couple of courses and then leave. Those courses are about the same price as taking one comparable course at the local community college (and in my experience its a much better course)

Generally, if I were to compare the things they try to change vs the things that other better known religions try to change... I tihnk that trying to decide which is more dangerous might be a really good question. :)

Believe me, I'm no fan of Scientology and I'm not defending it. But looking at it objectively, there is no appreciable difference between Scientology and any other religion except for the amount of time it's been in existence. No religion can back up its claims with any legitimate evidence and they all ask for money (albeit some more than others). And if you want to talk about "harmful", Scientology can't even begin to compete with other religions in body count.

Scientology locks people up and destroys families. It is a cult started by Sci-Fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, who at one time was a follower of Aleister Crowley. They use a system called "auditing" on their members, which is really just hypnosis.

Religion:
personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by.
Religion does not necessarily mean believing in God.

Of course, other religions tell you that you are a Spiritual being. Scientology is diferent it shows you that you are a spiritual being. They talk about it and we do it that's the whole diference.
Harmull to whom? There are millions of Scientologist living happy lives, is not our fault that the press just concentrates in a few critics.

No I do not. It is like all the other organized religions out there, a mere group that tries to condition people to be close-minded and remove any independent thoughts that a person may have

It only seems extra weird because it was founded within living memory. In a couple centuries, it will be as respectable as the Church of Latter-Day Saints. In a couple millenia, it will be as respectable as Christianity.
