A multiverse of infinite possibilities that works something like several different role playing games, except as real as it gets and in full living color. If you're good at a game you go to the next much cooler level. If you're bad at the game, you stay at the same level or go to a new game. The rules are all explained to you when you start the game. Every possible world and scenario exists in this multiverse. You could be an animal, a plant, a star (literally), a planet, a toothbrush. It's sort of like reincarnation meets the Matrix meets Club Penguin and Second Life. There wouldn't be any tricks, faith or nastiness. If you weren't supposed to do something it would be simply impossible, not just possible but I told you not to. If you don't like the game, you get a new one. If you like to kill people and make war, you would go to a game where everyone likes to kill people and make war and all were aware of this before they started so there wouldn't be any I told you not to business, if you want sunshine and flowers and streets of gold, you would go to a world where you could get that too and hang out with others who like it as well. You simply couldn't break the rules, but if you didn't like them, you could change dimensions, painlessly and easily at any time. Everything would just be a game. Nothing would be real and painful if you didn't want it to be. No traps, no black holes, no hell, no punishments, no eternity. Just a new game.
(nice fantasy huh? I want to believe....)

God did not create Hell. Hell is the place we ourselves put ourselves because we love evil things. God is not willing that any should perish. It was made to the Devil and his angels not man kind.
The spiritual world is interesting according to the writings of Emmanel Swedenborg.
People go where their motivational love is to be with others of like kind and mind. So if you love killing people you get to be with others who all love the same thing. It becomes hell as you try to kill each other forever. Lust the same way. Everyone is lustful all the time but never satisfied.
For those who love true and good you are with others of like mind. You have an eternity to grow in love of truth and treat each other with genuine love.

As an alternative? honestly I couldn't begin to imagine what any god, Christian or otherwise, could cook up for us.
Besides, there is huge variety when it comes to what Hell is to different people. Dante would have you believe it's a 7-layer burrito or something to that effect. Others would quote various passages to support their beliefs.. others would say it's their job or their marriage or their foo... with so much variety on just one concept.. why would anyone, devine or otherwise, need to come up with anything else?

I think not, Hell is perfect justice and was first created not for mankind but for satan and the rebellious angels, angels have an awareness of the consequences of their actions far and above that of human beings and when they rebelled they knew the full implications of this action.
Hell is devoid of love and joy, it is a place of terrible anger and hatred because of the nature of those who rebelled,it is also a eternal statement that say`s` We will not serve or obey`` and by following this principle we human beings will end up there by our own agreement with the fallen angels not to love and serve God.

based upon the christian principles, where god loves everyone, and he is knowledgable that sin is present in every person, and that forgivness is offered to everyone, and that all people are his children, the concept that there is a hell is absurd. Hell is used to frighten people into submission, if you dont behave your going to hell, ooooh. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Rehabilitation Dungeon. A few therapy sessions, a brief prayer for forgiveness, and you go to Heaven. Makes a lot more sense than what Christians say He made.

A penalty box would have been more appropriate. Or a time out chair. Eternal damnation to hellfire is a bit excessive for simply swearing and not being sorry about it.

Like, OMG, I so totally know what u mean! The flames are so 2000 years ago! I think black vinyl with whips and chains would totally be the stylish way to be tortured for all eternity. Come to me SATAN!
Update:
Sentinel, did you read Paradise Lost too? Like OMG, we're totally twins! Satan is definitely the main character, don't you think?
