You'll have to pay an Initial Consultation Fee which will vary according to the size of the animal but expect to pay upwards of £20. Then you'll have to pay for any treatment, medication, injections etc. If you need to take your hamster back again you may be charged another consultation fee but it won't be as high as the initial one, and maybe there will be no fee at all. But all medication will have to be paid for. Private vets make a fortune out of us caring pet owners, and while their work is invaluable, they can be greedy so and so's!
If you're on Benefits you may be eligible to take your hamster to the PDSA for treatment, and you will only have to pay what you can afford.

Yes you have to pay, vets need to eat and pay mortgages too.
Call a vet, any vet, in your local area. Normal procedure is to make an appointment, and then pay at reception, after the vet has checked your animal over and before you leave the building. You'll be paying a small animal consultation fee, which varies a lot, and then the cost of any drugs, which for such a small animal will only be a small amount, like under $20!
Call round vets and ask how much they charge to see a hamster. Ask them how much money you should bring. You can probably register your hamster over the phone, or when you arrive, that's just a matter of them putting your and your animal's details on their computer.
You have to be over 18 to bring an animal to a vet. If you're not, an adult will have to go with you.

Get your local phone book and ring a local veterinary centre. They will book an appointment for you, and take your hamsters first and last name (very cute!)
On the day you need to go to the reception desk and give them trevors name, and the vet will then call you in to the examination room. Its exactly the same as a doctors appointment for yourself. He will examine Trevor, and you will have to pay for this consultation, Now I live in Oxford, in England, but im guessing your from America. For my hamster the consultation was £13, which to you is about $24. If trevor needs antibiotics that will be extra. My hamsters medicine was £5, so about $9 to you. You will then go to the reception desk and pay for the treatment.

A rash ay, Could be a number of things. Mites are the most common cause of skin problems in small furries. A spot on preperation called ivermectin is the usual treatment of choice. Cancer of the pinna (ear flap) is fairly uncommon in small furies although not unheard of. Mites can be introduced on fresh bedding or bedding you havent used before. Normal consult fees for small furries can vary between £15 - £25 and if further treatments are needed then the price of the drugs will be on top of this.Hope this helps.

For a gerbil in Ireland I paid about 40euro first fee then the medication was pretty cheap after that! if I were you id ring the vets first and ask them do they deal with small animals like hamsters because some vets only specialise in larger animals.

You are entitled to ask for costs info at the start and should be offered a written cost at consultation. Ring round and compare prices - it is your right. Charities offer free clinics in some circumstances. Check out for an accredited vet if you want to make sure they are up to standard.
